This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
Thanks B&B for posting the update here. Great to hear that Caledonia is still doing well in Sevilla!

Thanks B&B I was only thinking about Caledonia today and wondering when we would get some news
Mary and Patily, I think Caledonia is wonderful and always think of her. "Up Town Girl" she is a posh city Osprey :)
So happy Caledonia is doing so well.
Caledonia's day trip to the Rio Guadiamar on 20th April took her close to the solar power plant near Sanlucar la Mayor.
This article in the Telegraph explains how it works - page through the slideshow.
Thanks SueC for keeping us updated on Caledonia, what with all the excitement of the happenings on the various nests, I am glad to see that she is not being forgotten about, hope she stays safe and comes back to us next year, now that is what I would call excitement LOL
She has favoured a different roost spot in the last few weeks, close to the confluence of the Huelva and the Guadalquivir.
The area can be seen in this photo on Panoramio.
When you look at the colour of the water in that photo you wonder how she can find any fish at all, but obviously she can, it looks a safe enough place for her to roost, I have high hopes for Caledonia! Don't we all though..
Thanks Sue for the photo of where Caledonia is - looks safe for her and like everyone else I long for the day when another tagged bird comes back. What a cause for celebration!
Thanks Sue C for the photo and updates on Caledonia. It is wonderful to see her doing so well.
