This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
Thanks Sue, so perhaps the Seville regions needs this rain to fill the reservoirs and aquifers, and Cally is just doing fine by going on fishing trips, but returning to her roost. Clearly she is not yet thinking of moving on which is good.

There was a Google Earth update for Caledonia last night (25th - 29th March).
Recent positions mostly either around the roost, or in fields near the Rivera de Huelva, going north towards Guillena.
She has made no further trips into the city.
Thanks Sue. I am glad she is staying put. Mind you, with the trouble that White YA had got himself into at Blagdon Lake it seems nowhere is safe for osprey.
Thanks Sue C for your last tracking update as always appreciated.
There is a GE update for Caledonia (30th March - 5th April) corresponding with Richard's footnote to one of the weekend's blogs.
She has continued her recent pattern of fishing up the Rivera de Huelva, north of the roost.
One place she has visited, on 3rd April, is the small reservoir of El Esparragal, on a tributary of the Huelva. This seems to be on the land of an upmarket hotel - this looks like a pic of the dam on their website.
There is an apparent error in this update suggesting Caley went on a trip to the Med on the 3rd - I have emailed Mike (Tracker) about this.
Glad to see Caledonia fishing and roosting in her favorite place! Thanks for the information.
Thanks for the update, SueC. Glad she's well.

Thanks for the update SueC and wonderful she is doing so well and back to her favourite place :)
A recap on Caledonia's excursion of last week, which is now on GE.
Caley set out on 9th, initially heading ENE along the northern edge of the Guadalquivir valley, seemingly retracing the route by which she arrived in the Seville area last August.
At about 45 miles out, she headed north west to reach the Embalse del Retortillo. She stayed at this reservoir till the morning of the 11th, mostly around a bay on the northern side.
On the 11th, she returned home across the Sierra Morena, checking out another reservoir, Huesna
blog from Jen Clarke and great news Caledonia is doing so well. Always the best news ever to here how Caledonia is doing. great news
Caledonia has been quite active over the last week. Her longest jaunt was on 20 April taking a round trip of 60 km N of the Huelva roost then W to a reservoir (Embalse De Guadiamar) at 10.00 hours, then S when at 12.00 hours she was over a small lake W of the Rio Guadiamar before flying E over Santucar La Mayor and Bormujos before arriving at the Canal De Alfonso III in Seville at 14.00 hours. She eventually returned to the Huelva roost at 16.00 hours. On 21 April she visited the Canal again and Isla Magica in Seville. On 22 April she was recorded over the centre of Seville travelling N at 35 km/hr and 51 m altitude. On 23 April she made a short round trip of 20 km E of the Huelva to a point S of El Castellan.
