This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
Thanks Brenda H - surely it's got to be her.......
I found this article on a fishing blog about the stretch between Barqueta and Alamillo bridges, where the "osprey suspected to be Caledonia" was seen catching a carp. The fishing seems to be so good that it's used for angling competitions.
It will be wonderful news if it is Cally! I feel sure it is and hope Valerie or Roberto can confirm it.
What wonderful news that Caledonia may have been sighted, it surely must be her as the sighting tied in with the GE movements. It will be great if there are some photographs of her, it is so exciting to think of a LG juvenile overwintering in Spain.

Thanks Brenda H and Sue C it has to be Caledonia. What fantastic news and I am quite emotional :)
Thanks Sue C. You have been doing your detective work again. I have now learnt a lot about fishing in the area too :-) Yes, it has to be Caledonia.
That is great news it must be Caledonia, hope someone can get a pic.

Me too B&B I have my hanky oot LOL!!!!
FANTASTIC! Surely it can't be anyone other than Caledonia. It has really cheered me up...although I have shed a tear for dear Alba that we weren't getting comparable good news. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Roberto or Val and co were able to get a photo of Cally?
I wonder if Val and Co. could meet up with Roberto?
