This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.

Mary, got nothing to do and fancy a trip to Seville :) I am being serious and need to get a passport fast
Sue C looks interesting :)
Its just amazing to think of Caledonia flying overhead those built up areas of Seville.... I wonder if there is an indication of what height she is flying at!!
LOL B&B, so you fancy a trip to Seville then!!! Would be fantastic to see her and even better get a photo of her!!!

The Google Earth data provided by Loch Garten do have heights associated. Sadly there are no times attached, just a date, and of course they still haven't got the software working, so the readings only go up to 27th November last year (hint: pull your fingers out RSPB IT staff!)
Looking GE points for November (when she was settled in the area), she seems to spend most of her time at around 13/14m from the ground, although she did get up to 40m at one point. I've attached a spreadsheet I compiled of the data for November, if you find it useful. The first one is in ODS (Open Document Spreadsheet format - I prefer open formats), but if you can't read that, I've also included a version in MS Excel 97 (.xls) format.
EDIT: sod it, the forum software blocked my .ods file, but did allow the .xls one through. Strange considering .xls files can be infected with macro viruses....
EDIT2: I didn't mean to suggest that my file contained any ;-)

Caley has had to deal with some rough weather this weekend; Andalucia has suffered winds up to 114 km/h, causing damage to property.

Thanks RtB for the spreadsheet and information re heights etc.....
Lets hope Caledonia has sheltered over this bad period of weather, on looking at the forecast for Seville its looking quite good, and I have a friend who lives on the coast albeit a good few miles away who told me last night that the weather has been great this winter, most days reaching temperatures of 20 deg.C.
Now we will wait anxiously on the next blog to see if she is safe and well.
Caledonia will be 250 days old later today.
