This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.

Mary - Noboddy knew of Beatrice first migrations because she was not tagged as a juvenile. She was tagged as an adult at the age of eight years in 2008.
Likewise Green J was not tagged until an adult as a ten year old so her earlier migration also were not known.
Roy did say to me off cuff that he thought that Beatrice may have gone to West Africa in ealier years and had a fright and decided Spain was then best for her.
So nobody around will have followed either Beatrice or Green J earlier migrations.
Hi Keith Thank you very much for your reply, I completely forgot about Green J and Beatrice not being tagged as juveniles, so much to remember lol. I appreciate your reply Keith in reminding me off this fact.

She is still there and great news. Do people think Caledonia will stay in Spain now or is there still any chance of her moving.
B&B : I think Caledonia will stay in Spain now with the days lengthening and temperatures as they are at the moment fishing will become even easier. It will be interesting to see what happens when the other ospreys in the area head north.
Thanks Alan and getting excited for Caledona. Do not want to tempt fate.
Hopefully there will not be so many in the same place at any time. Interesting and I will be accused of being in favour of tracking soon :)

By this Alan are you thinking along the lines of Caledonia may just join the other birds heading north and come back as a 1 YO. It has happened before, so I am not talking rubbish. LOL
Mary : The thought had crossed my mind.
That is a really interesting thought Mary and Alan. Definately new to me.
