This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
Alba shuttling back and forward between island and mainland:
Caledonia : As before with one longer trip to the north east on 13th October:
Thank You for this information - Nothing from the main blog for 9 days so your information on here is a very much welcome especially when some of us are not so apt as following on Google Earth. (Never got the hang of it - One day maybe).
Thank you Alan - and I concur with Keith's comments on the posting as I rely totally on updates here for the birds. Frightening on Chip - if in theory he did arrive on a ship to Europe - surely his navigation would make him want to return to the Americas?
All's well that ends well - I'm happy enough for both Alba and Caledonia so far. The less humans in unsafe wildlife territories know about our precious birds the better. Thank you for the update pic ALAN

NEW BLOG from Richard.
Good morning all and and many thanks to all for your maps and info. Tracking is another thing I have never got to grips with so I am very grateful to those of you who keep me well updated. Caledonia and Alba seem very settled at the moment and very happy that things are going so well up to now, long may it continue.
