This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.
Do you think that because Alba headed stright for Delta du Saloum it may also indicate she may be offspring of Blue XD who we know spent his first tagged winter there.
He took his time going south and the more scenic land route in Autumn 2000 but OH MY his journey home Spring 2001 - surprised he is still with us.

And Good Morning to you TIGER
Yes forgot to add about her Highland Fling whilst he was having difficulty getting home - but Blue XD made sure he came home early the next year.
Blue XD did ot throw a strop and kick the eggs out of the nest like Henry. He accepted the situation and ended up rearing a chick that was not his. So perhaps 2012 was Karma.
I have always wondered if Blue XD rested on Skye between 8/4 and getting back to Strathspey - time lost for 20 days or so.
Do we get any more data today for LG pair or was that the full 3 day update yesterday until Sunday/Monday.
I will be looking out for Moffer.
There is going to be a signing off blog from the 2012 team. No more data tranmission until Monday I would have thought.
Unknown said: Odin arrived earlier than ever he has done so probably think he would arrive simlilar timing and EJ was a little early but then she normally is an early arrival.

I thought it was the other way around, KEITH - EJ was very early, Odin may have been a little early but not early enough!
I've got that firmly fixed in my noddle so please someone clarify :-(

I thought Odin was on time and EJ very early this year. I was at LG when Odin returned and saw off Blue XD after EJ had attacked him. Saw a new side to her that morning but she is lovely
