This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.

WOW, Alba the Amazing!!! She surly must be following an adult bird to know exactly where to go? Never the less, an amazing journey from her, especially as she never ventured far from the nest area until she left for good.
Cally the Considerate, is enjoying the Spanish sunshine and light winds. She will get a move on when she is ready. There is no hurry.
Loch Garten stats. and All the important links for LG.
There is a big problem with the theory that Alba might be following an adult bird. Just what adult bird could she be following?
It is a bit like saying Usain Bolt runs fast by following someone else!
Tiger Signature
I wonder if Cally may stay in Spain. Alba for sure has been in this world before, although she started life as an unholy terror she was wise enough to know the pecking order and bide her time, knew the routine very quickly not to squabble over fish as waiting patiently always got a huge EJ fish - one wonders what she learnt that first night away from home after fledging :)
So do you think she was being chased then Tiger, because Usain Bolt is never following behind anybody. I guess we will never know but interesting thought all the same.

No I believe she was flying alone as most osprey do.
However sometimes ospreys do go through some points in such numbers that they must see each other. There is a point in the Cuba whee literally hundreds go through in one day.
My point was that since Alba was flying faster than any other European tracked osprey it is not likely that she could be folowing any other osprey.
What about the Osprey Police then Tiger? Speed trap? :))
