This thread has been set up to follow the travels of Caledonia and Alba, the young ospreys raised at Loch Garten in 2012.
Their mother is “EJ”, the resident female at Loch Garten since 2003; there is some doubt about the identity of their biological father, given EJ’s dalliance with a male from a neighbouring nest, Blue XD, both before and after the return of her regular partner Odin, who raised them.
Caledonia hatched on 16th May and Alba on 18th May; they both fledged on 14th July.
This is a link to the Loch Garten blog describing the ringing and satellite tagging.
Caledonia’s ring is Blue/White AA1, reading downwards. Alba’s is Blue/White AA2, reading upwards.
Following the tracking
This page gives a quick overview of the routes on a map, which will be more useful once they start migrating.
If you want to look at the routes in more detail on Google Earth, this page contains instructions on setting up your PC to do this.
This blog contains some useful information about how the tracking works – we are now on a 3-day reporting period.

I have an approximate memory of each bird tracked so it usually boils down to one or two options.
Tiger Signature
JSB Thank you for that. It is as I thought.
Interestingly T09 came from the same nest as 08 (97), 01 (99), and 06 (01)
Now 06 (01) was the bird that did not obey any osprey rules and wintered in Portugal and came back as a 1 year old.
01 (99) decided that the English thing was not for her, came back to Scotland and nested at Piper Dam near Dundee. She had a disabled osprey for a partner.
Of course 08 (97) became a very famous osprey. Good genes?
Oh my goodness they're in a hurry! Just tuned in to see if there was any news, and am reassured they're both safely on land. No long stops in the south of England for this pair. Thanks to all who have posted the info.
I'm so happy to see both girls are safe and well on land, they have done really well to travel so far in one go especially Alba who didn't venture far to begin with, I hope they now rest and fish to gear up to longer flights in the rough terrain to come.
Thanks to everyone for all your interesting info.

Oh, she passed over Cardiff International Airport, I could have gone down and watched her flyover!:-)
If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
Alba would have filled herself right up from the fish in Pontsticill Reservoir. :-)
Sandra - As I said to you earlier today - I would have stayed around that beautiful reservoir you have shown us for a wee while but am sure she was well fed with a good Welsh Meal.
Just wonderful news that they are safely on land.

I very much doubt that either of them has caught any fish. There is no sign of them crisscrossing water.
