Welcome ALL to a new week from chilly Adelaide (4.0 C min overnight here near the beach).

  • TRISH  good news about Mia

ANNETTE   Some years ago there were programmes about HM. It was a series of 4. There is a shot of her driving in the Balmoral area when she sees someone she knows. The lady comes over to speak and says something funny and HM threw back her head and really laughed. It was so good to see. Much more recently (a jubilee review of the troops) and there was a flypast in formation E 11 R and 60. She most definitely was impressed and showed it. Her face lights up when she smiles and like you I wish she would do it more often.

  • Before that 86 year old lady - The Queen - sat down to watch a long boring parade of athletes, which we all knew would overrun because it always does - she had hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace for visiting Royals, Heads of State and other dignitaries.  Then she had to be up for an official visit to the olympic stadium this morning.  I am sure she would rather have gone to bed at 9pm last night than try to look cheerful - and when she did smile, she looked as if her teeth were hurting - poor old dear!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • She didn't look happy, did she?  Charles and Camilla were having a good laugh at something, though.  To change the subject, though, we had a lovely baby Goldfinch in our garden today - and it stayed for a while!  Thought of you immediately, OG, so I'm pleased to see you posting.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • CLARE - pleased you have a baby Goldfinch - they are so cute when they flap and swivel to demand food - and noisy with it too!  We have a young Redpoll now - seen it several times.  Haven't seen you post recently - I hope all is well.

  • Hi Trish 2 - don't know where you are but I had my treat of Red Arrows yesterday - about 5pm they flew in to Manston right over my head - my boy was staying overnight and he stood in garden chair cheering & clapping each one - he's only three & loves them.  Then they went to Olympics for flypast and returned to overnight on airfield.  Flew out this morning and passed over so low & loud it frightened Byron to death and he ran in crying!!! I haven't checked their itinerary for next few days so I can't tell you.
