Happy Sunday all UK folks and Hi to those in the Eastern US and Down Under and, of course, Auntie in Finland. Don't forget to check out the last posts from last week; I'll be back later to check on them myself!
Further to my last post, here's the link to Traffic Scotland

We watch the STV news each evening (OH gets homesick even after about 50 years!) and saw the item about the ski road from Aviemore to Cairngorm. The snow gates which are closed are five miles or so up the road (beyond the Rothiemurchus fish farm of osprey fishing fame). Wouldn't like to be up there tonight! We've got a gale and heavy rain but then we're in N Ireland and at sea level.
aquilareen: regarding the Tour Down Under. I can relate to your situation in Adelaide. When I lived in Indianapolis, I used to dread the month of May, because the city would be consumed by the Indianapolis 500 auto race: the parade, the marathon foot race, a ridiculously sexist beauty pageant, snarled traffic, etc. If you are a fan of auto racing, it's great, I guess, but if not, it's a big ol' pain in the ... neck! Glad things are improving a bit for you.
Oh well, when it comes to bike races, the Amgen Tour of California has tied up the Santa Ynez Valley for several years in a row, closing down what comparatively few main roads there are and thoroughly exasperating residents. This is the first year the valley isn't hosting it (the tour decided to go somewhere else) and I suspect that while some locals are breathing a sigh of relief, others will miss the revenue.
Alan/Tiger: Loved the eclipse pictures/info! Thanks.
It was bitterly cold here last week, and now it is freakishly warm! The warm air and the super cold ground are creating icy fog swirling through the woods and on the roads. Very little visibility and very, very spooky! It doesn't help that our satellite company temporarily turned on a premium movie channel, and I watched a werewolf film!!!
Hi, Annette! Yup, the Indy 500, too, generates lots of revenue for the powers that be, but lots of hardship for the working folks.
Hope everything is going as well as can be for you. So sorry that you missed the rose pruning. I'm sure that the community people have good intentions, but not good skills it seems. :-( Hope you are getting the car issues settled. You shouldn't have to deal with that right now! What a load of crap! Hope your daughter is healing well. So glad that you are getting much needed rain.
Caerann: I loved the picture of the Xcel plant. Puts everything in perspective!
dibnlib: Sorry that you have been poorly. And please accept my condolences on the death of the beloved aunt.
Really huge and frantic herd of impala at Pete's Pond right now. http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/wildcamafrica/ (Included link for new people.)
In before a new thread is created. See this video of the solar eclipse. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/8460949.stm
Tiger Signature
Morning all from TI
Another day without sunshine. This must be some kind of a record even for the UK. Pouring with rain at the moment although I did manage to get Hamish out before it got too heavy. Nothing much planned for today so probably watch some footie later if it is on SKY.
My countdown clock says 68 days now so mine is about a day behind Tigers so we are getting there.
So looking forward to spring and the return of the ospreys.
Weather:
Overcast & Gloomy , Light Rain , Temp 3.9c , Wind SE 10.7mph , Sunrise 08:02 , Sunset 16:18
Last night on the Estonian forest cam 1 I saw what I believed to be elk. It turns out that they were moose
Cheer up Alan, they have forecast SUN tomorrow. I know what you mean though. We need the lights on still. It is so dull and raining here, but it is washing the last of the snow away and the garden is now green.
