Happy Sunday all UK folks and Hi to those in the Eastern US and Down Under and, of course, Auntie in Finland. Don't forget to check out the last posts from last week; I'll be back later to check on them myself!
Hi Margobird. I enjoyed the Snow Watch programme, too. Lots to see & some lovely photography. The team there are so enthusiastic, it must get some of the young people interested. I'm taking their advice & going onto their website to check if there is any more I could be doing for feeding our garden birds.
Glad to hear that Mum & Baby are now back home and doing well.
I'm off to the cinema this afternoon so glad to see that a lot of the snow has thawed, even tho its still pretty thick in our road. Bye for now!
Haven't watched the Snow Watch programme yet, but following your good reports, I will watch it today.
We have had rain and a balmy 3c . Road is now deep slush, but great to see a thaw starting. Off to do a big shop now as our nearest supermarket is about ten miles away and our freezer is getting quite low.
Thanks Alan for telling us about the blog from Douglas. I would have missed it otherwise.
Starr ranch barn owls now have 6 eggs. That is going to be quite a family to support.

Thanks Alan and what a large family of barn owls there is going to be hopefully.
Loved the video of Lily wonderful to see her so close up and had to laugh when she had a good old scratch.
Sorry your weather is still bad and the lack of sunshine does make you feel so fed up.

Some bad news about pelicans in US. We are not the only ones suffering from the cold weather:

Thanks Alan didn't know whether to look but I did and what terribly sad pictures.
Afternoon all
Just came back from having lunch with a friend - went into the pub with good intentions of having a salad etc ... BUT ... it was cold! We have no snow here, but just 2 miles inland they still have quite a bit lying ... I was quite surprised. Spent ages in the pub car park watching the birds on the various feeders that they have ... had a chuckle at the woodpecker trying to peck into the upright of the birdtable :))
Margobird - glad to hear mum & baby are home - hope you get to visit soon!
Alan - thanks for the pelican link - so sad to see those pictures
Thanks everyone else for chat & info
Stay safe

Hi everyone.Just as I thought there was a thaw, it's been snowing here today. Not a great amount but enough to give the cleared areas a light covering and to top up the snow which has been lying from the previous falls. Thankfully the main roads are cleared though.Firstly a warm welcome to Jo Swannell, who's joined the group. Great to have you on board Jo.Hope your book case project goes to plan Diane. I have a few boxes of book lying around, and should probably do something similar myself.Great to hear Mum and Rhys are back home Margobird. Hope you get to visit soon. Thanks for the links Alan. It was great to see footage of Lily, and fantastic to see the barn owl with six eggs. Very sad pictures of the pelicans. The antics of the woodpecker in the pub car park sound hillarious DjoanS. Bird feeders in a pub car park are a brilliant idea.Happy Thursday everyone. :-)Paul.
Warning! This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar. Approach with extreme edginess.
Welcome to the group Jo Swannell and Robert the Bruce.
This is a nice clip of Jewel who was Phoebe s chick last June being rescued after falling from the nest:

Thanks, Alan. You realise that although the chicks are small, they are really really TINY when you see the huge human hand! A happy ending for Jewel, at least. Sad about those poor pelicans. Also, enjoyed Lily the bear, stretching & scratching.
Annette: Sorry to hear about your OH's car. As my friend said, the biggest annoyance was that all the hassle following the incident was more trouble piled on upon the actual accident, plus the perpetrator got off more lightly than the innocent victim. Your counter tops sound lovely (we call them worktops here!) I would just brush them over a bit to account for the ants (my OH would say, if ants got into the food, it would just be more protein & vitamins for you to digest...) We deliberately bought a speckled carpet for the living room, as we wanted beige but with Dog leaving hairs & bits of garden all over, we had to go for something which didn't show the obvious. It seems to work. Just wish I didn't keep falling over all his toys as although they're colourful, I am not as observant as I used to be.
AQ: Second hand books! Irresistable. There are not nearly so many shops for these here, now, as the charity shops have taken over in that department. I daren't go in them now. When I go to donate, I almost run out of the door to leave in case I spy something I 'must have'.
Heron 77: Glad to hear that you do "roost" occasionally - your sleep pattern is like my brothers, he got up late though, most of the time.
Diane: You put me to shame even thinking of more bookcases. My books are jammed into corners in almost every room, the actual bookcases being long ago filled.
Went to see "Sherlock Holmes" with some friends this afternoon- fast, fun & entertaining. Looking forward to seeing "Nine" when it comes around, we saw a trailer for it. The snow is almost gone, but not quite, & now its freezing up again, although we are promised some milder weather for the next few days, so hope it melts for all those poor souls who have hardly been out at all in some parts of the country.
