Weekly Chat, Sunday December 27 2009

Hi everyone.

Welcome to the final weekly chat of 2009.  Remember to check out the last few posts of last week's chat for the latest posts.

Paul.

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Well, that was a full-face up close view of what looked like a hippo in the process of waking up - one eye open, bleary eyed, all disheveled and groggy looking. Now we've got zebras and I'm falling asleep. Night all.

  • I know! I thought the same thing when I saw that lazy wartie in the mud!

Oh Diane: If you're there take a quick look at Pete's Pond.  :-)))  He/she looks like I feel!

  • It was the close up of the wartie - not a hippo - that I was referring to. I look like that first thing in the morning - Saw all the above (think those were mongoose). Very busy there, same as yesterday.

  • Diane: I'm going to head off to bed - really exhausted.  Our phone rang at 4 a.m. this morning  - just once - but enough to startle me and had a hard time going back to sleep. Did not make it to the gym (got my wires crossed - they don't open until tomorrow) but maybe I'll stay home, browse the cookbooks and let OH answer the phone.

    Take care all

  • Get some rest and sleep well, Annette. I'm turning in, too.

TerryM: Thank you for the heads up about the hummingbird preparing her nest! And thanks to Alan for the hummingbird info link. FAB! Lots of snow here tonight. I'm going to send it all to you, aquilareen!  Night all.

  • Morning all 9.15am here and still snowing, so Diane and more than happy to contribute to that "sending snow" to aquilareen.

Annette, yes I like Ruth Rendell and have read a Barbara Vine novel years back but can`t recall which one. I like detective stories and recently been reading books from Swedish authors, there are some very good writers there. Last year read a novel by Leonie Swann (German? Austrian?Swiss?) who wrote about a flock of sheeps whose Shepard was killed and they tried to find out who did it. The oldest and wisest sheep was called Miss Maple.

Have a nice Sunday everyone and stay safe

  • Lots of interesting chat over Christmas and “Boxing” Days – apologies to anyone I should have replied to – enjoyed descriptions of celebrations, photos, links, laughs etc etc.

Caerann – so sorry that John was not well enough even for your reduced celebrations – perhaps you’ll find a way to do something special for him when you are both feeling 100%.  Your view from the window looked lovely in the snow, and I’m pleased you weren’t worse affected by that storm – do take care.  Thanks for owl picture – I collect owl ornaments.

Annette – cookbooks after Christmas?  Is this to control post-Christmas diet?!  Sympathy over that early morning phone, it is horrible when that happens as it puts all sorts of thoughts and “maybes” in your head and you can’t settle again.

Auntie – still snowing there - wow!  Will this go on right through January?

We had some rain last evening and I think temp is just above freezing today, but there is still snow and ice lying.  No special plans for today might make a few birthday cards, or something else creative, to pass the time.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Caerann  What a lovely picture. Careful though you may scare the ospreys. Great Horned owls were thought to be ospreys only predator but in more recent times we have seen bald eagles and white tailed eagles attack ospreys.

  • Morning all - well that's it all over for another year!

Temperature above freezing here and a slow thaw of the ice and lying snow - but still treacherous for walking on the pavements, so I'm not venturing out today.

Caerann - sorry you and John are unwell - hope you both have a speedy recovery

Thanks everyone for pics - owls are a great favourite of mine too, and like you OG, I collect owl ornaments!

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Morning everyone,

Caerann - I hope you will feel better soon Loved the owl pic.

Djoans - Slow thaw here also but as you say pavements are treacherous. More snow forecast for later in the week.

Not doing a lot today apart from walking the dog. Probably watch a bit of footie on SKY. Reasonably happy with Dundee drawing at Inverness and cant complain about being 8 points clear at the top.
