Well it has been one of those worrying days again. It started out fine with both Odin and EJ seemingly enjoying their reunion.
Then sometime during the morning it was noticed that EJ was no longer on the nest. This was not worrying to begin with but as the hours passed it certainly concerned the viewers on here.
The weather at Loch Garten has been generally foul today and has become even worse tonight with snow falling.
So is there a problem or not? Personally I do not think so as ospreys have been known to go walkies before (well maybe they flying equivalent of walkies whatever that is).
In 2005 EJ went AWOL for a whole nine days. It was thought that she was sulking because Henry had smashed her eggs.
I guess viewers will be tuning in at first light to see if she has returned.
Anyway I think it is a bit too early to panic!

Thanks a lot, MAGGIE :-)
I wondered why you said that, Lindybird, so checked back and saw Maggie's great news. It's "fatal" when one's post lands at the bottom of a page >:(
THANK YOU MAGGIE!!!

Get some rainbow trout too! :) :)
At least it seems to have stopped snowing up there. Looks as if it might actually be rather a nice day - just in a very different way from last week!
Phew I can relax a bit now
The more you rush, the longer it takes

[/quote]LOL yes indeed Tiger :))
Those are deep tracks on the nest. Looks like about 8" (20 cm) deep. That will take a while to melt . If she can't get onto the nest until Friday and lays eggs on Saturday do you think Odin will notice he was cheated out of HIS nooky time LOL

Right. A little bit of calm please from everybody. Relax. Please remember that just because you cannot see EJ on her nest, it doesn't mean she is not there. Yes, she was AWOL for most of yesterday, but that means nothing. At this pre-settling stage in an osprey's season, for a bird to be absent for a while, a day or two even, is nothing to worry about. EJ, knowing she now has her reliable male osprey (Odin) back with her, perhaps felt confident enought to leave the nest and go out for the day and fish for herself - the more fish the merrier, at this pre-egg laying stage, to help bring her into condition.
As I type this EJ IS PERCHED IN THE DEAD TREE ADJACENT TO THE NEST (well she was at 09.05am when I left the Centre). There is 7 inches of snow on her nest, so why would she sit in that, enabling you to see her at home? You cannot see her, so you'll just have to take my word for it that she is there. It is not helpful to jump to conclusions about where she is and who she is with, nor to start a blame-game and consider writing letters! So please, chill everybody, let the season pan-out.
Meantime, we have a problem with camera 1. so you'll not be seeing the wide nest shot or EJ sat in the dead tree. But she is there, believe me.
This confuses me a bit. Why, when XD was not bringing in many or large enough fish and she didn't fish for herself, would she go fishing now good old dependable Odin is back and already presented her with fish? But then I am no expert.
Yes agree that people were getting a tad fractious and there was a lot of tension around, even cross words yesterday. But heyho, today is another day and all is well....apart from the snow that is!
Thanks very much Richard for this welcome news :)
