Weekly Chat, Sunday December 13, 2009

Hi everyone. If you didn't check the last few pages of the previous week, it was very busy. I'm going to catch up all the latest posts after dinner.

  • Hi everyone. Enjoyed all the chat and photo's, thanks for all of it. I am riunning in and out now, my "to do" or "honey do" list doubled in size overnight, literally, so must crack on. Catch up later:)

  • Gary you are a bit of devil, rubber gloves as presents.  What are you like, still it gave me a laugh,

    Margobird

  • I have had to do the same and put more peanuts out for the wood pigeons and squirrels.  Costing me a fortune but I will do anything I can to help them in such cold weather.  Had to defrost the bird baths this morning because my sparrows still like a daily bath.  Makes me cold watching them.

  • Afternoon all. The cold weather certainly did arrive: -17C this morning and now has "warmed" up to -13C. Actually it is not as bad as one might think `cause there is no wind. I bet these temps will be much worse if there's a wind, like in Caeran`s Chicago.

Alan, you mentioned those gees flying being a sign of bad weather. We have a saying here: Snow comes from geese` back and cold under swans` wing. Meaning that it will be snowing when geese migrate and the freeze comes when swans leave.

    Waiting new diary entry

Have a good day each and everyone

  • All this talk of the weather (cold, wet, grey here) reminded me to check up on West Africa and see what the ospreys are getting. According to the BBC weather page the forecast for Dakar (the nearest place I could find) today is max: 28C, min: 20C,unbroken sunshine, 41% humidity, pressure: 1023mB, good visibility with a light North-Easterly breeze. Forecast similar all week with temperatures rising to max: 31C, min: 24C.

    Wish I was there!

  • Thanks for that Alan so much going on with tracked birds that I do forget some of them so you have given me a timely remimder.  Pity we don't get the same details one R & M.  I am now looking forward to a blog about them and hoping they are both OK.

Has gone very cloudy here now but rain is not forecast but that is often wrong.

Hope Lady P enjoys her stay in Ireland.  I am sure you will cope with Thunderdog's help.

  • Hello.

Just read the link you posted, original goldfinch.  That's sad news and just shows us how tough life can be for migrating birds.

Gary. There's nothing wrong with rubber gloves.  As far as I'm concerned nescessity focuses the mind when it comes to gift buying. ;-)

    Paul

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Sandy wish I was too it is freezing here today,

    Margobird

  • auntie that is very cold.  I keep saying how cold it is here but temperatures not as low as you have.  Keep warm.

    Margobird

  • OK, off out again.

Auntie, you win the prize for the coldest day so far, by a long way!!!! Hope that knitted cap came in useful.

Paul/Margobid, I would just like to defend myself. I suggested "kitchen/household goods " as a pressie , rather than rubber gloves. Even I know they would be a "no no" LOL

Thanks for all the info etc everyone and will catch up later. Off to buy the vet a cake!
