This Topic has been set up to follow the Spring 2012 migration, and summer activities, of satellite tracked ospreys, excluding Rothes and Tore from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread.
It replaces this earlier thread, Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Aug 2011 - Feb 2012.
Rothiemurchus will fly the Bay of Biscay no bother.

Thank you for your positive reassurances......... again! I see he only did 100km yesterday so maybe he knows its going to be rough! :)
I have been reading Rothiemurchus' spring 2011 migration again. It may give us some basis of what to expect in the next week or so. The refuelling stop in NW Spain, then the sea crossing.....I wonder if his memory of last year will affect his route? If he was happy with the direct sea route to Devon, will he repeat that.....or will he decide to follow that route, but stop at the Brittany peninsula, near Brest. Whatever he does, it should provide useful information of an osprey's 'learning by experience'. But what if does does something new? Remember, his 2009 autumn migration took a route over the same sea area, roughly speaking, but in the opposite direction and in autumn 2011, he crossed to south of Le Havre, before following the French coast down to Spain. The latter route, was his most recent experience and to track back up that flightpath, he needs to head over to the east. Rothiemurchus is a strong flyer and his satellite tag is working well, I wish him well and a safe journey to his chosen destination.
