Wagtail in the garden. Light not great but you can see it is a wagtail:
Sunday seems to be disappearing the same way that Saturday went, so will try a catch up while OH & J are replacing a car light bulb. Normal weather here – misty to start, then high white cloud and moderately cold (around 3 degrees last time I looked out). Sorry to read that so many have it much colder than here, and still snow in places. When J went just the 23 miles from here to Langholm, there was 3cm lying snow there (thankfully cleared from roads) and much more in the hills above.
Lynette – I hope you enjoyed the meal out on Saturday –with safe travel.
AQ – we kept back some of the Biscuits from the coffee morning; it was a good one, well attended and made over £600. They sold my surplus Owls – apparently one person bought them all, so must be another Owl collector in town! Pleased the Anniversary went well, and good to see the pretty wedding photo. Thank you also for starting the new thread; I love the Honeyeaters sequence, with commentary!
Brenda – very jealous of the Brambling flock – we have only ever had a single stray one here. We did see Wren recently – had thought he had disappeared – I think he gets up long before we do in the morning! So sorry to read you were having even more snow today!
Linda – so pleased OH is feeling some benefit from the new Chiropractor and that you can be more sure of your holiday now – I hope he gets a reasonably supportive mattress at the hotel!
Alicat – I am sure it must have been an emotional get-together for OH’s family last night – especially for him and his brother, but I hope you all also enjoyed the time together.
Annette – Blue Grass concert sounds great fun – and good that it was so local to you. My Great Uncle lived near Holbeach, in a village called Saracens Head – he had a smallholding growing tulips (many years ago). Last time we were travelling down that way, we went to the Bulb Museum at a garden centre. I hope you get your garden time today, and reasonable weather and Whale sightings on Monday.
Alan – nice to see your Wagtail again, but hard to believe that depth of snow!
Coffee now, then need to get hosed down for church tonight – been spending far too much time on the photo sorting!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
we had a Wagtail here yesterday & again today, they are a pretty bird. Several Goldfinches on the feeders, too, but I think our neighbour has stolen some of ours, as we had more numbers last year. He told us at Christmas that he's put out more feeders as he's enjoying the birds so much. We were also told that another neighbour hates the birds & has been chasing them away! - it takes all sorts I suppose.
Glad to hear that you feel up to going to church, OG, and that the coffee morning went so well.
Quick look in to other sympathy to all who are sick of the cold! Do wish I could parcel up some warmth for you all. Spoke to family near Lincoln this morning and it was gray and warmer. They're hoping their ancient boiler holds out - it's way past it's "expiration" date.
Tiger: Brilliant!!!! Thank you! I've printed out the map and if it's clear I'll be out there looking skyward.
OG: Bravo for the profit from the church sale - nice that your owls found a good home.
Lindybird: When are you leaving for the trip? Sounds like a great escape right now.
Back later; off to do stuff in the garden (sorry!) Take care everyone.
The snow lasted a couple of hours this morning and left a fresh 2-3 cms. We had a high of 2.4c this afternoon. Rain forecast for us tomorrow afternoon/evening with 4c, so hopefully it will wash all this snow away.
AQ, Brilliant sequence of the NH honeyeaters and your amusing captions. Thank you.
Alan, Love your wagtail. I mostly only see them near the coast or supermarket carparks. I was thrilled last winter when a couple appeared in the garden but nothing this year. Sorry about the freezing rain. It is more dangerous than the snow, at least you can see snow on the roads.
Linda, We have been leaving our heating on overnight, at a lower temperature, during this very cold weather. So glad your OH now feels he will be able to have his holiday. I hope he continues to impove.
Annette, Your Blue Grass concert sounds brilliant. Hope the rain arrives for your garden, as long as it stays dry for your whale watch session.
OG, The bramblings came back this afternoon but only about ten this time. They were mixed amongst the chaffinch.
Trying to watch Dancing on Ice as I type this. Making too many mistakes / correcting
Brenda : Freezing rain did not last and we had a high of 4.7c so the snow is thawing. At the moment it is 3.6c which is 12.6 degrees warmer than it was last night at this time. I was also watching Dancing on Ice. Great show.
