Hi all. Just got this started before zipping off to bluegrass concert. Check out the previous blog for nifty photos of alpacas from OG and more!
Not at work today so have just caught up on the last several days news. What a lot of things going wrong/right, people being hot/cold, workmen doing doing good jobs/ bad jobs, but fortunately only news stories with good endings (I like them). OH is 300 miles down south visiting his mother so no time to surf when I have to do all his usual jobs (cats, hens, keep woodburning stoves in, go to work...)
Auntie - I have a cd of Rautavaara called meet the composer, with a selection of his work, I love Cantus Arcticus. Sibelius is my favourite composer, perhaps I was Finnish in a previous life!
The cranes are live at the moment, someone keeps coughing and I don't think it's the penguins...
Before I moved to Cumbria I used to live fairly near Sarratt, where the juvenile osprey has appeared. They are lucky to be seeing one but I hope it survives ok. It seems there are a few fishfarms in the area.
I'm sure there were lots of replies I was going to make, I should do as Annette says and have two windows open, one to read and one writing the reply. MUST BE MORE ORGANISED. Oops, that wasn't meant to be caps, but is suitable for shouting at myself.

Caerann: Long-eared owl must've wondered what was going on, being abducted mid-migration, cleaned up, fed, and sent to "spa." I wonder if they'll send it on its way, and if so, if it'll expect the same treatment next year. :-)
Caerann/Lindybird: I love all things Hitchcock, Casablanca, etc., plus any of the 50's-era films noirs(?).
Auntie: It seems like in every remodelng project there's one sub-contractor (if you're lucky, just one) who's flakey. Plumbers, as Alan notes, seem to demonstrate a higher rate of flakiness than others, but painters are a close second (after all, anyone can paint!) :-)
Margobird: Glad you didn't hurt yourself this time around. I think we go through phases of bashing ourselves - I'm always in such a hurry that I tend to literally cut corners, hit door jambs in my haste.to get from A to B and then go ricocheting around the house like those little balls in arcade games. Drives my husband, who is slow and methodical, dotty. Skin cancers are very common here' I'm always having things frozen off or dug out (sorry to be so graphic). It's a great place to be a dermatologist.
George: They added speed bumps to one road in Santa Barbara and the residents complained so much they took them out; wasn't even near a school. What kind of a camera did you get?
Alan: Hope Lady P's T'bird doesn't require massive infusions of cash and that plumber manages to sort himself out in time for Monday.
Gary: Weather here gray but still warm; we had two raindrops yesterday; another chance of rain next Thursday. Carpet man expected in about two hours; I'm all excited again. Maybe tonight my laptop and I will be back in our normal space and I can stop walking sideways aroung piled up furniture.
Time to get moving; can hear our young neighbors' chickens clucking away in their garden. It's nice that we're in a residential area where you can still have chickens (but no roosters). Take care all!
Morning TerryM! Nice to see you.
Hi as well TerryM:) How inconsiderate of your OH to leave you with all the jobs!! LOL
Annette, I have a great visual of you pinballing around the house. What a great description. Fingers crossed for the carpet.
Pinball!! That's the word I couldn't remember. Thanks Gary. (But nothing lights up and dings when I hit it.)
Re tonight's Autumnwatch on TV in the UK (BBC2 at 8:30) featuring a report on Ospreys in Senegal, filmed last week, there is another option (possibly) outside the UK, except the USA. Zattoo TV is an internet TV system and I believe that the BBC channels including BBC2 are available in other countries, but I cannot guarantee this.
One would have to download and register free of charge to Zattoo. Windows XP or Mac format. Also you need Adobe Flash Player 10, which is not compatible with the latest Firefox, but OK with Internet Explorer. I have Zattoo with BBC2 playing at the moment, but I am located in the UK.
If you try it, I hope it proves to be worth the effort involved.

Auntie I do live in Kirkcaldy but a bit closer to the once village of Dysart which joined up with Kirkcaldy in the1930's. I have just come back from the harbour at Dysart where they have been doing quite a lot of renovations. In the future they are going to try and bring the harbour back to what it was before it was damaged by storms. We get quite a lot of tankers sitting out in the Forth just off Dysart as they can park there without having to pay anything before going further up to load either oil or gas from the terminals further up the river.
Annette the camera I bought was an Olympus 590uz which is in between a DSLR and a point and shoot. Took some pictures when I was down at the harbour but am still trying to work out all the different features on the camera. Things are a lot different from the old kodak box camera that we had when I was young.

Good Day Everyone!
George G: We have speed bumps everywhere in Chicago, it's just crazy. We have 2 on my street because of the elementary school and all through the alley behind us. People still speed through and fail to stop at the stop signs anyway.
Does anyone know if we can watch the Autumnwatch program on the website after it has aired on the telly? I'm really keen, as you say, to watch it at some point.
Hi Caerann,
As you may know the BBC 'catch-up' website BBC iPlayer is blocked in the US due to DRM rights legislation. So I am sorry that access via that method is not possible. However, if you have relatives or friends in the UK, you could ask them to record the programme for you.
