Weekly Chat, Sunday November 8

Hi all. Just got this started before zipping off to bluegrass concert. Check out the previous blog for nifty photos of alpacas from OG and more!

  • Gary : Nice story about the black lab and a happy ending. I have had black labs before the thunderdog and they have always been a favourite dog of mine.

Caerann : Nice story about the owl and another happy ending.

OG : Plumber did not appear yesterday so decided to try heating again and it appears to be ok now. Still going to get it checked though as it does appear that the pump may be on the way out. Boiler was serviced about 2 months ago so that is ok. Plumber now coming monday morning we hope. They must be the most unreliable tradesmen.

Weather pretty awful again today. Heavy rain this morning until about 10. Dry at the moment but the sky is dark.

    Temp 10.3c , Wind SSW 6mph.

Friday 13th today and Lady P has a problem with her thunderbird. Automatic stuck in Park. It is off to the garage now so we shall see what the problem is later

Simon King in Senegal on Autumnwatch this evening at 20:30.

  • Just got back from shops and planning to make lunch.

Margobird, so glad to hear the good news from eye specialist

george g, do I remember correctly that you live in Kirkcaldy? I`ve been there in mid 90s. Nice town and everybody were very friendly

  • Margobird, you need to watch out. Sorry about going over again. Take it very steady

Alan, sorry about the Thunderbird. Hope it is something simple.

Annette, we are due the "nor easter" tonight and into tomorrow (for everone else, that is a storm that comes up the east coast of the US and as it is over the sea, picks up a lot of moisture so we get heavy rain/snow depending on how cold it is) Not cold enough for snow so just rain. Still, I don't think it will be anywhere near as bad as parts of the South that has had tons of rain. Hope you are not too hot Annette and the carpet man comes this morning.

  • Auntie, glad the story made it your way as well:) Happy Fredag!

Caerann, will check out your story later, thanks for posting it. Need to go and start my day.

    Catch up later

  • Hi.   I don't worry about it being Fri. 13th, as my mother used to believe years ago that it was a lucky day for her!  Doesn't seem to affect me either way. Dull & cloudy here, and I've just had to put the heating on as although it seemed quite mild to start with, its gone chillier now (don't know the temp)  At least its nothing like as cold as you have, auntie

Margobird:    Not again!  Be careful, wellies can be slippery you know!  Don't add to your collection of colourful bruises.  Sorry to hear that you've had such a year of what we used to call "in the wars" & hope you will get the all clear from the docs. You may have to look back on 2009 as a time to remember in more ways than one. The pretty garden picture was from OG, by the way, not me, but wish I'd been there to see it, lovely.

Annette;  Love the old b & white films, they don't make them like that anymore!  Our favourites are Casablanca, The African Queen & Brief Encounter.  Hope your carpet laying is OK & all finished soon, then you can heave a sigh & sit back at last.

Caerann:  Thanks for the happy story of the owl on the oilrig- he was gorgeous, wasn't he?

george g:  Agree about the speed bumps, we seem tohave more & more of them & they are definitely not good for the car.

Gary:  Glad you are better, now.  I always buy my own b'day & Christmas presents these days, in the interests of marital harmony!  Have mentioned before, he hates shopping & is a hopeless shopper so we have now after many years of marriage compromised in that I choose & sometimes order, & he pays!   At least it saves on money wasted on something unwanted being produced on the day - I should add that sometimes I do get a small surprise present, as well! usually music as I love all music, & radio or cd player is on all day here. Just booked for a Christmas concert in Manchester, all  music by Gershwin, looking forward to that. Last year we went to Carol Concert, year before Opera Highlights, in between go to Gilbert & Sullivan performances & pop concerts, and brass band concerts.

Hope everyone is not too hot or too cold! respectively.

  • Thanks Lindybird but  just think things can only get better now and 2010 will be a good year.  Not all bad this year of course.  We had a wonderful osprey family who gave me such pleasure and joy to watch and as they now seem to have settled down is even more wonderful.

    Margobird

  • Thanks Gary seem to be a bit accident prone at the moment, think I had better stop indoors.  The trouble is I so worry about my garden birds when it so wet for them so keep popping out to make sure they have enough to eat.  We have severe gales forecast for Southern England coupled with torrential rain again so will be even more worried about my birds tonight.  It makes my husband laugh (although he loves nature too I hasten to add) that I worry so much about them.  Poor little souls have had wet nights all this week as well as during the day so they are very busy stocking themselves up with food all day long.

    Margobird

  • Alan sorry about Thunderbird hope it can be solved.  You have the same weather as we do here in Poole at the moment, very miserable.

    Definitely won't forget Autumnwatch tonight.

    Margobird

  • Gary sorry sent a post but called you Alan in error.  All this falling over must be getting to me.

    Margobird

  • Hey Caerann, great story about the owl:) So cute in the guy's hands. Glad they could clean him up.

Margobird, you are very caring about the birds which is wonderful but watch your step:)

Lindybird, on the present front, I always ask what my OH wants and I often get "I've dropped you loads of hints already" and I haven't picked up any!!! LOL  She knows I need clear instructions to avoid disaster. Still, I can't go wrong with horse/riding stuff so that is a good fall back for me.  The music concerts sound lovely. Something about going out on the run up to christmas.
