Hi all. Just got this started before zipping off to bluegrass concert. Check out the previous blog for nifty photos of alpacas from OG and more!
dibnlib - thanks for that info about the goldfinches - could explain why they haven't been around much. Have had plenty other birds around the feeders and table ... the collared doves are so funny sometimes ... one is a real bolshie 'so and so' and chases the others from around the base of the table, so I make sure I throw some seed further away!
Alan - loved the pic of your goldfinch - so sweet all puffed up like that.
Margobird - glad your improvement has continued!
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Morning all: Yes indeed, it's officially Veteran's Day here and from what I can tell we're celebrating it with a lot of sales: We've received multiple flyers depicting perky young people waving the Stars and Stripes and inviting us to spend money. One of the top morning TV shows has started off with a story about a girl who can't stop sneezing, a sex scandal involving a TV talk show host, and the execution of a murderer. And, oh yes, it's Veteran's Day. 'Nuff said.
Alan: Can't get the live cam of the eagle right now, but great still shots, especially of that fox. What a lovely creature. Your goldfinch looks fat and happy and pleased to pose for the camera.
Margobird: Glad that the upward trend is continuing. We live a mile from the ocean and I can't imagine living any further away at this point - it sort of puts things in perspective.
Wattle/AQ: Hope you survive the heat! We have gray skies and sprinkles forecast for this week. Temps still in the low 70s during the day. They are telling us it will drop to the low 40s (around 4C) at night!
Lindybird: When we had the big fires here earlier this year, my friend rushed home to find her 70+ husband on the roof of their house, watching the flames advance. She didn't know which was scarier (all ended well though). Sounds like your dog has the right (doggie) idea about helping out! By the way, what does OH stand for? OG has used it too.
Gary: Hope neighbor and retriever go home happy! Re shopping, I do most of it, but husband sticks to list (except when he can't "find" something). It's a bit like when he goes Christmas shopping! And he always buys far more than we need as if we're about to face a drought, famine, etc.. and there'll be no OJ, etc., for years and years....
Bye for now. Great excitement here as carpet installers got their Wednesday job cancelled and called to see if we wanted ours in a day early! Yes, please!!!
sorry gary forgot to say hello earlier
as we have been talking penguins thought i would tell you that dave was detached to the falklands in 1987 so he saw rockhoppers gentoo and magellanic penguins and as it was their summer there were lots of babies as well. we have amazing photos. wish i could show you them but sorry 'cos of course it wasn't a digital camera. he thoroughly enjoyed his time there(the falklanders have o lot of time for the brits) it wasn't so much fun for me though stuck in the uk over winter. the saving grace was a job with the civil service at raf leuchars which i thoroughly enjoyed
hello caerann
sorry to hear you have had a down day. i haven't worked for some time now due to a health problem and it can be depressing especially in winter.there are times when i feel i may never work again. hope you feel better soon
annette i am guessing it is other half. hope you are well, any other trips planned?
OH - just clicked - Other Half. Duh.
dibnlib: Hi there. No trips planned; now the house is just about finished am going to stay home and enjoy lots of days without contractors arriving on the doorstep at 8 a.m.!
Hope the carpet looks great Annette. I bet you can't wait to be finished. Had a chuckle at the shopping. I missed the dog but will try and get a stoke later.
Dibnlib, those penguins your OH saw sound great. And time in the Falklands. That must have been quite an experience.
OK, off for my solo shopping mission
watched the festival of remembance on sat of course.thought i would mention that my last 3 years of service were at the london air traffic control centre(mil) i was asked to parade at the albert hall and i said no thanks, let the younger ones do it. it is certainly a regret i have. the WRAF got a standing ovation during rehearsals, because they were so good and i was told the atmosphere was amazing. oh well, that is life
the band of HM royal marines were there this year and i have a snippet about them. her maj had brittannia docked in America, and the queen was hosting president Reagan. after the banquet they went to watch the marines perform on the dock. the president was awestruck and said to HM that his home was hollywood but they couldn't match the performace given by the marines. don't know what HM replied but it is well known she is very knowledgable about her troops and thinks very highly of them
lovely stories Dibnlib, thanks
Back from food shopping unscathed.
