HAPPY NEW WEEK!

News for This Week: Scientists can change the past!

You MUST look at this! Scientists are developing a "time cloak" that could change the past. Seriously! The "time cloak" hides an event in time, making it seem like it never actually happened.

It's called "temporal cloaking", and it makes an event disappear by sending it into a "time hole" where the observer can't see it. It's like cutting a few frames out of a movie and splicing the film back together without them. A first demonstration of a time cloak recently took place at Cornell University, U.S. Now, that is spooky. The full explanation is HERE. You can see a video animation HERE.

Also...

The Russian spacecraft Phobos-Grunt was launched on 8 November but failed to boost itself out of Earth's orbit, and whatever remains of the big fella is expected to crash back to Earth today (Sunday). The Russian government predicts the crash time to be:

21:51 GMT
9:51 p.m. U.K.
4:51 p.m. EST U.S.
3:51 p.m. CST U.S.
1:51 p.m. PST U.S.

They believe that the fragments may fall into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chile. Phobus-Grunt is carrying 11 tons of very toxic propellent. Experts predict that the fuel tanks will create a massive explosion high above Earth, releasing the fuel to burn up in Earth's atmosphere. The vaporized fuel will re-condense into small particles that may remain in the upper atmosphere. The material is said to be "exotic", and it's unclear how it will continue to affect the chemistry in that region of the atmosphere.

The spacecraft was also carrying a module containing a set of live micro-organisms. The bio-module was designed to survive re-entry, and it's not clear where all the little critters will end up! I figure they'll be transformed into mutant aliens!!!!!

Everyone have a good week!!!

  • Evening all: Gone all day again today - not on the schedule, but daughter's back went out Big Time a few days ago and she got an appointment with her doc so I went up there and spent the day with her, which included driving her to appt. She did fell well enough for stop for a quick and easy lunch before getting back home and flopping on the bed (very carefully).  Then did a spot of grocery shopping for her so she won't have to fight the stores if she doesn't feel like it.

I'm waaaaay behind catching up on finances, taxes, and other paperwork, including updating our wills, etc., which are a decade out of date. Very naughty and unwise and at the top of my List of Things to do.  Also, did not get anywhere near as much done in the garden this week as planned.  I think I need a wife, secretary, accountant AND fulltime gardener so I can spend more time doing important things like chatting on the blog.

Have read all the posts and pleased most everyone is doing okay. Stay warm (or cool in AQ's case - nice puss AQ!).

Take care all and have a good Saturday (arghhh where does the time go!)

  • Miserable morning here so OH has taken Dillon for his morning walk without me. He is off to work shortly and will drop me off for a swim. Hope the swimming lessons haven't started again as they give us less room to swim and it gets quite noisy. Still I had to learn once.

New client at voluntary work yesterday and he needs help with reading - the last person was numeracy. As one of his hobbies is football, our reading was about Manchester United.

Dislike football but was jealous to find that one of my friends has been lucky enough to get tickets for the Calcutta Cup. OH (and he is English) thinks Scotland stand a good chance this time.

  • Good Morning:   Dark and cold & windy here today.   First, a message for Lynette, although she does say she may not look in today:

~     ~    ~  hope you have an enjoyable day.  (that is Bynack, by the way, in case anyone is wondering)

OG:   took  my OH with me shopping as he was at a loose end so thought he might as well help with lugging all the tins etc. from Sainsbugs! Also it does him good to see the price of things!  Food has definitely gone up in price in the last 3 months, its creeping with a couple of pence on everything here & there, so that you don't notice until you get the Grand Total at the till, and then you think "Whoa!!"    He has today got a bad back (it kept him awake last night) as he was digging at the Allotment and forgets he's not aged 24 any more.  He also cut his finger quite badly the other day, and won't get anything done for it - I'm sure it needed stitches but he won't let me make a fuss.

Lovely pic of kitten, AQ!!  -  Aaaaaah!

Must go do some more shopping & get Saturday papers, have a good day everyone.

  • Good morning all Cold, windy and threatening rain here today.  I'm way behind with the 'to do' list - I think I've caught OG's nosebleed! (Hope yours has settled, OG and that you're feeling much better.

Annette  Two beautiful girls in your picture.  Delilah looks a real charmer.

AQ Little miss has the most fabulous smile.  I bet she'll be an engaging little rascal when she's older.

Hope all the grandmas will keep us up to date with the progress of the young.  It's so lovely to watch them develop.

Diane hope the storm passes you by.  Keep safe.

  • Oops! bjane i should have included you in the message to Diane - I see that you are expecting another 5 inches of snow.  I hope it won't be as bad as expected.

  • As it would appear to be LYNETTE'S birthday, wishing you many happy returns too.

Despite the restricted swimming area (yup, lessons had started) I managed 50 lengths of a 20mtr pool so I am more than pleased. It is a fair few weeks since I did anything more than 30. Now all I have to do is cut down on the calories - and that is a much more difficult task.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Bjane – that’s a lot of snow – stay safe!

Lynette – never manage to get the Ecuador camera up on my screen – although the Brasil one works ok!

Diane - strange about the Ribbon Seal – beautiful creature, thanks for sharing.

AQ – poor Jasper – pushed out first by Baby then Guinea Pigs!  He’s looking well in the photo – are his health problems all sorted now?

Annette – your poor daughter, having so much trouble with her back – is there nothing can be done to prevent it keep happening?  And poor you having to rush over there and sort her out with transport, shopping etc.  OH had to visit our bank again this morning – yet another Direct Debit payment got “cancelled by the system” – it wasn’t due to be paid till August, being an annual subscription, but the drawer had a letter from the bank saying it was cancelled!  OH was lucky and actually saw the manager, who said nobody had made the mistake, it was the system which had generated the letter – the DD was still shown as current on the records.  Third one recently, but this time she has promised to look into it!  Will she be able to stop it?  Previous one was an important insurance payment that was cancelled, and it’s due to pay out later this year, so we don’t want any defaults on that!  Draft wills arrived yesterday, so got to decipher the legal gobble-de-gook before revisiting the solicitor for corrections and signing.

Dibnlib – your voluntary work sounds very rewarding – even if you do have to read about football!  So you like Rugby?  I see Scotland’s first match is at Murrayfield against England.  Well done with the swim!   I noticed that there is snow on the ground for the Sled-dog rally again this year – do your friends still take part?

Linda – sounds like your OH needs to be more careful with his gardening – maybe a lifting and handling course and also basic first aid!  If he won’t get the finger seen to, I hope he has Tetanus protection.

Patricia – sorry about the nosebleed – I hope it doesn’t last too long.  I would prescribe rest, but I know that is difficult for you.  Mine hasn’t done it again, and I am feeling well today.

  • And also from me - Happy Birthday, Lynette!

Horrible day here, wind and rain. Well done Dibnlib for braving the elements and doing 50 lengths! OH and I made a super quick visit to Tesco, glad to get home but will be going out again this evening - birthday meal with friends. For someone who doesn't really enjoy parties apart from family get togethers this is two days running that I will have been out.

Yesterday we attended a Diamond Wedding luncheon. Friends, primarily, of OH but I have enjoyed getting to know them over the past few years. After a lovely meal in a local hotel we enjoyed a ceilidh. There was singing (in Gaelic , by a former Mod gold medallist) and some Scottish country dancing. Great dancing and guess who was in the thick of it? Yes, the 92 year old lady half of the celebrating pair! Her husband's sister is a dance teacher who led the ten or so ladies who were performing. My OH is very fond of Ceilidh dancing ( similar in many respects to SCD but perhaps less strict? -  is there anyone out there reading this who can explain it better than I can?) and he thoroughly enjoyed this part of the afternoon. There was also some dancing that anyone could join in with -waltzes etc. Altogether a lovely day. The celebrating husband acted as MC. What an inspirational couple. There was also a poetry rendition by his lady wife- several verses long and performed without any written prompt. I can't find the way to give you a link but the poem is called ' MacAllister dances before the King'  and was supposed to have been a favourite of the late Queen Mother!!

Thank you all for pics and posts - lovely baby pics and Annette - your grandaughter is so beautiful. Sorry not to have made any individual replies.
