HAPPY NEW WEEK!

News for This Week: Scientists can change the past!

You MUST look at this! Scientists are developing a "time cloak" that could change the past. Seriously! The "time cloak" hides an event in time, making it seem like it never actually happened.

It's called "temporal cloaking", and it makes an event disappear by sending it into a "time hole" where the observer can't see it. It's like cutting a few frames out of a movie and splicing the film back together without them. A first demonstration of a time cloak recently took place at Cornell University, U.S. Now, that is spooky. The full explanation is HERE. You can see a video animation HERE.

Also...

The Russian spacecraft Phobos-Grunt was launched on 8 November but failed to boost itself out of Earth's orbit, and whatever remains of the big fella is expected to crash back to Earth today (Sunday). The Russian government predicts the crash time to be:

21:51 GMT
9:51 p.m. U.K.
4:51 p.m. EST U.S.
3:51 p.m. CST U.S.
1:51 p.m. PST U.S.

They believe that the fragments may fall into the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Chile. Phobus-Grunt is carrying 11 tons of very toxic propellent. Experts predict that the fuel tanks will create a massive explosion high above Earth, releasing the fuel to burn up in Earth's atmosphere. The vaporized fuel will re-condense into small particles that may remain in the upper atmosphere. The material is said to be "exotic", and it's unclear how it will continue to affect the chemistry in that region of the atmosphere.

The spacecraft was also carrying a module containing a set of live micro-organisms. The bio-module was designed to survive re-entry, and it's not clear where all the little critters will end up! I figure they'll be transformed into mutant aliens!!!!!

Everyone have a good week!!!

  • Friday Smiles

A smile is a special remedy for an injured mind and body. (Japanese proverb)

Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face. (Victor Hugo 1802-1885)

The most wasted of all days is that during which one has not laughed. (Nicolas Chamfort 1740-1794)

If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane. (Jimmy Buffett 1946- )

Like a welcome summer rain, humour may suddenly cleanse and cool the earth, the air and you. (Langston Hughes)

  • AQ: That baby is absolutely adorable. What a smile!!! So, so, so beautiful.

It's 9 F (-12.7 C) here tonight. Want me to send you some cold air, AQ? We received 2 inches of snow today with freezing fog. More ice and snow due tomorrow afternoon.

I'm off to bed. Will check in with everyone tomorrow. I have to get up early to take the bins down the driveway lane. I hope Red-Tailed Hawk is okay tonight. I feel sorry for him in the freezing cold. Kind of worried about him.

  • Hi all: Very tired after trip to Target (among other places) and stocking up on detergent and all that fun household stuff!  Off to bed and will catch up properly tomorrow.

Did get a glimpse of AQ's Little Miss - aren't all babies wonderful (and yes, she has such a big smile!).

    Take care all.

  • Just missed Annette by two minutes – got up early, but was making a sandwich right then as feeling dizzy and thought I might be hungry – had meals in different order yesterday because of J’s interview time.  Decided a sandwich was more sensible than anything else – jam for a quick shot of sugar and peanut butter to provide something longer-lasting!  I got up at 5:30 because I couldn’t get back to sleep and was starting to cough – been there since 10:30 last night because they want to get up at 6:30 today.

Lynette – understand about your church from our time in the CofE!  Sad that there are such differences within the church – even between evangelicals!  Pleased the burn is improving.

AQ – some good quotes for Friday smiles, thank you.

Diane – so winter is with you right now – that is really cold!   I hope today’s ice and snow will not be too extreme.  Take care.

Annette – it seems lots of people were very tired last night!  Must have been lots of cleaning stuff you bought, to wear you out like that!

I’ll be back later to chat with the day shift!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Morning all,

TerryM : Sorry that Willow has not turned up yet. Earthflight with the ospreys and the bears was the best one I have seen so far.

Annette : Lovely pic of GD with Delilah.

Margo : Glad you are feeling better.

Mary : Each to his own re the cruises. I dont really like to be organized it is just not my thing and I cant swim.

OG : Glad your cold is getting better.

Dibnlib : I agree about Countdown. I rarely watch it now without Carol Vorderman and Richard Whiteley.

Sandra : Nice pic of the Dunedin male. He is whiter than white.

AQ : nice pic of LM and thanks for the Friday smiles.

Lynette : Thanks for the Sanibel Island pic and the Phoebe pic. First hatch at Sanibel is due in about 10 days.

Diane : Sounds like winter has arrived at last. -12.7 is cold.

Thanks to everyone else for the chat etc.

Last monday was supposed to be officially the most depressing day of the year. Well I think they got it wrong as today is hard to beat. It is raining steadily and so dark I have the light on at the moment. Hamish took one look outside this morning and then went back to bed after eating his breakfast of course. On the plus side it is quite mild with the temp at 6.2c and rising. Lady P has gone off to the doctors again with the sinus problem that has been continuing for some time. Not a lot on today. Son in Law and his son Joe aged 10 are coming for tea this evening as this is his weekend for having him. He has to drive down the A14/M11 every second friday to pick him up. A14/M11 are chaotic on a friday and I have to keep an eye on the Highways Agency site so I can inform SIL of any delays as they happen. M11 is often moving at about 8mph on a friday afternoon.

  • Good afternoon all and just quick post from me as I am having problems with my connection to the internet.  Spent 2 hours this morning with no luck at all and getting more frustrated with every passing minute.  OH is going to contact Sky tonight as the new router was supposed to have solved the problem.

Mary  so relieved to see a post from you.  I am pleased that you have been able to think of the happier times with Muffin but know that she will always be missed by you.

AQ thanks for Friday Smiles and what a beautiful smile LittleMiss has, one to brighten up any day.

OG sorry you are still not sleeping terribly well and still coughing.

diane  take care and I hope your red tailed hawk is OK.

Sorry I have only made a few replies but don't want to do a long post and then find I have lost the connection again.  Think OH is working on Sunday, busy time of the year for him so hopefully if the problem is solved tonight will be able to look in Saturday and Sunday.  Keep your fingers crossed all.

    Take care all.

  • Afternoon all. Gloomy damp day here and quite cold. OH is out of hospital and is recovering well! He is still in quite a bit of pain and discomfort, but has been told this should wear off in about a  week ... just has to take the strong painkillers. He is already complaining that he can't drive for at least a week, so he must be feeling better :-))

Lovely photographs of babies posted by AQ and Annette ... real little beauties!

Hope all those who are poorly/bruised recover quickly.

    Thanks to everyone for posts.

    Take care.

  • Looking in and thanks for your news.   Just been watching Jewel as she is believed to be pregnant and about to give birth anytime. You will probably know that Jewel is Lily's younger sister. Anyhow she has been restless for the past few days but nothing has happened yet.  They anticipate today or even tomorrow but nature is nature and little one will come when ready!!!   Peregrine on the perch at Worcester too in the evening light.

Just treated myself to new cushions, storage jars, bread bin , and sink tidy all in green except for 3 cushions in red.  Brightens up the place. Only ordered yesterday before 2pm and they arrived this afternoon. Quite impressed with Matalan.   Will look in a bit later but not tomorrow as I'm not sure what is happening as its my birthday and could be out - got to wait and see!!!   Back later, must get on with one or two things.

  • LYNETTE thanks for the news of Jewel - who I hadn't heard of - and all the pics.

DJOAN glad OH is home now and complaining, a good sign!

ALAN thought last nights "Earthflight" the best yet - those wonderful colourful Mynahs and the doting Daddy Condor.

  • Sorry - been out with my OH to the shops (he hates it!)

Annette:     Such a happy picture of your beautiful granddaughter and the Delightful Delicious Delilah!

Lynette:   Thanks for the various pics.  I would love to sing in a choir.  I have been enjoying 'Earthflight' too, and each programme has been different. Had my heart in my mouth when the baby Condor was pushed off into the blue yonder by her parents.

AQ:   Thanks for the great Friday Smiles:  I like the Victor Hugo one best.

Joan:  Great that your OH is now back home again and you can both look forwards once more.

Alan:  Sorry that Lady P is still suffering with her sinuses:  maybe the spring weather (soon.... ) will help to clear it up.

margo:  Thank goodness you are now recovering, and hope that you will soon be enjoying your food once again. Hope you can get your connection problems sorted, its sooo frustrating when you can't get online.

Did take a bag of stuff to the Charity Shop when we were out, after clearing out the bottom of the wardrobe:  amongst other things, I found a washing up bowl (we used to use it when on self catering hols in UK) & it had all sorts of small things in it, including some curtain hooks (now filed in the garage), some picture hooks and wire (been looking for those) some chair arm covers, some useful wrapping paper, and also a whole lot of old wallpaper which we can't even remember putting there.  A lot of things have gone in the bin.  A mystery package revealed a smallish stuffed figure:  our son's old Roland Rat!! - he was a popular character on TV in their day, and as he had lived mainly on a shelf is in good condition - maybe I can sell him on Ebay!   Looking forward to filling the space in the wardrobe with some of the things which seem to 'float' around the house without a proper home.   We have lived here since 2003 but I still seem to be sorting stuff out!

Sorry not replied to All:   enjoy all your posts.
