NEWS FROM OTHER NESTS - 2012

Dunedin male:

  • New osprey cam from Latvia. This is part of the ESTLAT program:

  • So sad third peregrine chick is dying in front of our eyes at Nottingham. Mum must know it has little chance of survival as she is no longer brooding it. One of dead chicks fed to remaining strong chick this morning by Tiercel. More bad weather forecast as well.

  • Aww Bless, one of the surviving chicks is dying.

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Hi Sandra, I think if the Tiercel had not disappeared then these chicks might have stood a better chance but they went over 24 hours without food in torrential rain whilst the falcon grimly hung on.

Do you follow the Fulham & Barnes peregrines? The third chick there is still hanging on this morning

  • Hi Carol. No, I didn't know there was another Peregrine webcam. There are so many to watch now :-)

There are at least 3 others streaming live, Fulham and Barnes on Charing Cross Hospital, Manchester Peregrines on Exchange Square and the peregrines on Chichester Cathedral. There is also a still webcam on the peregrine nest on Derby Cathedral. I think the peregrines at Huntly in Aberdeenshireshire also have a webcam.

I watch the Fulham and Barnes as my son lives in Barnes near the Wetland Centre where these birds hunt. They also catch a lot of the local pesky parakeets.

PS would forum users prefer it if we had a separate peregrine thread?

  • Carol. I have the Charing Cross Peregrines webcam on my desktop, thanks :-)

  • I think this thread was originally meant for news from other osprey nests so it was easy to find the osprey news. Maybe we do need a seperate thread for other raptors. I am happy to go with the majority.

  • Carol. Have you seen the CARNYX webcams? There is a Goshawk cam not far from me in S Wales. Here is a pic of her :-)

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

    Carol
If you're offering to start one, I think that would be a good idea, as there seems to be a lot of interest in the peregrine webcams.
Posting peregrine observations in this thread/forum means that only members of the Loch Garten Group can respond, which seems unnecessarily exclusive as it's not about LG or ospreys.
The best place to put it would be here in the Wildlife forum. I already have a thread running on Chichester peregrines there.
