I have felt for some time that the next growth of osprey population will be in France. On the sightings thread Tiger was asking about numbers of French 'residents' and SueC, has reminded me of the document below, that she found some time ago, which is the LPO summary of the French population in 2010, published in August 2011. (So 2011 may be made available later this year). I was interested in the Paris region, particularly the department of Essonne. I recalled seeing on another forum a birder who seems to know a lot about osprey in France mentioning this area, although he lives in the Channel Islands, some may have heard of him? Herebelow is the PDF document and also a translation that I have not yet proof-read, of Page 16 which may throw some light on the Essonne past and future as far as osprey are concerned.

Tiger: Here is a PDF document, from the source of Forest of Orleans information, the ONF (the equivalent of our Forestery Commmision). Is says 58% of the Balbuzards in the 'Central' region of France in 2009, were there. That means 58% of 29 breeding pairs and 47 fledged young, that were counted in that year. That percentage does not equate a round number, so I think it must be 17 breeding pairs, or 34 adult birds plus an unknown number of singles. The PDF is on this link, which has to be downloaded, see "telecharger le communique de presse".
