Hi, all.
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!!!

Thanks Diane, and the same from me, to All. It was so mild over the holiday, it was a shock to find it went colder overnight last night and is now more like the cooler temps we expect from this time of year. Wish I could send you some of the cool air, AQ!

Morning all,
OG/TerryM : Of course you are right about the first footing tradition. It is supposed to be a tall dark handsome male who is first over the threshold after midnight with his bit of coal etc but I have had to modify the tradition now that I live in England as I dont think the neighbours here would take kindly to someone banging on their door just after midnight and carrying a piece of coal. They are more likely to call the police than ask you in. Sadly this is England sigh!!!
Yesterday we went to Van Hage and there were lots of bargains if you like 50% off Christmas lights etc. We then went to Elton Garden Store for a bite to eat. Just had a freshly baked scone with butter and jam and a pot of tea. Later went home and took Hamish out and then watched some footie.
Lady P has decided to take down the cards and indoor decorations and is whirling about the house like a dervish at the moment. I think I will leave the outside lights up for a couple more days yet.
Sun is shining but it is much nicer indoors than out as the temp is only 4.4c
A belated Happy New Year to all! And may 2012 be a healthy and happy one for you al - and a successful breeding year for the LG osprey family.
Was struck down by a severe attack of vertigo early on New Year's Eve morning. I had to call for help from sister and B-i-L as I couldn't help OH to get out of bed etc. I'm feeling better now but very apprehensive because the attacks come without warning. My GP has given me the name of a consultant and I shall phone his secretary and make a private appointment - NHS takes forever.
Lovely bright morning here today, with ice on car windscreens, etc. The forecast for the rest of the week is awful, with storm force winds - not looking forward to that at all.
Keep well and safe, everyone.
Hope you all had a really wonderful time, doing just what you like doing best!!................
~ ~ ~ ~ and that you chilled out with your friends......
Alan: My OH is tall & dark (well, he was, although now there is a bit of snow on the roof, if you know what I mean...) so he used to go out with a piece of bread and a lump of coal to call on all our neighbours, then come back to be first person over our own threshold. Nowadays we don't see anyone around if we are at home over the New Years night.
patriciat: Oh, poor you... vertigo is so horrible and debilitating. And of course you have the extra worry of care of your OH. Do hope it can be sorted for you. Take Care of yourself.
Diane Thank You for starting us off and for the lovely card. Thanks to everyone else for your New Year Wishes, Photographs and chat.
Alan ~ Never thought of putting hubby out the door with the coal & black bun, probably because he is not tall, dark and handsome is the reason why, but no matter what he's my man Ha Ha. Remember when I was growing up though that the celebrations went on for days, and the whole village were in and out each other houses with their bottles. After a couple of years of a woman neighbour being our first foot my mother said that was unlucky so following years after that she got my brother to get one of his pals who had jet black hair and was quite good looking to stand outside so that on the bells he could be out first foot ha ha.... You are not related to the Petrie's from Shieldhill are you!!!
Linda ~ Forgot to mention your Christmas poem was terrific. You are so gifted to be able to put together such wonderful stuff.
Patricia ~ Sorry to hear that the vertigo has come back, hope the medication will start working again.
AQ ~ Oh I dont envy you that heat, must be terrible trying to sleep, I dont think I could suffer those kind of temperatures.
The sun is out and its temping to get out and about but it looks a bit windy and feels quite cold so I think I will be another couch potato today....
Soon we will be counting down the days until EJ & Odin's returns, how exciting will that be when we see them land back on the LG eyrie. Fingers crossed all will go well and we will have some lovely chicks to watch for another year.

Mary: I am not related to the Petries of Sheildhill as far as I am aware but Falkirk is not too far away from Dundee so if I went back far enough it is a possibility. Petrie is a sept of the MacGregor clan but I can never reconcile this as most Petries are in eastern Scotland?
Just wondered Alan, as one of our friends is a Petrie and I knew he had brothers but had moved away. As you say no doubt if you go back far enough though! Funny that always when we are in other parts of Scotland my accent especially is always mistaken for being a Fifer!!!
PATRICIAT I hope that your latest attack of vertigo will settle quickly. I've never had it but it must be awful.
OG Haggis stuffing - Heaven!
Just having a quick break from a massive New Year clean up operation. Decs down and nearly finished cleaning the living room. OH has gone out for a long walk with Mia - he's not daft. Before he went though I had to get him to pull the settee out for me so I could do a rare vacuum behind and under it. I'm no weakling but it's unbelievable how much that thing weighs and there's no way I can pull it out far enough on my own.
Earlier it was torrential rain, sleet, hail but at the moment we have a little bit of blue sky. They've gone to do what we call the long river walk. It will be very hard going with the mud so I'm not that disappointed not to go too but shall be if they see any interesting bird life.
Yesterday our bull finches returned, what a joy. That SH had better stay away. The red kite has been again this morning flying low over the gardens and field at the back. I know they are supposed to eat only dead things but I must admit if I was our neighbour come summer time I think I'd be reinforcing the top of the guinea pig run.
Right better get back to the HW.
And a VERY HAPPY NE'ER TO YOU ALL. Waved our house guest off this morning, but nearly froze standing outside to wave him off down the lane. Yesterday it is high cloud with a gentle breeze and uncharacteristically warm at 12 degrees. Boy, what a change a few hours can bring despite the gorgeous blue sky and sunshine. Earlier it was 6 degrees, but by 1.00pm is had already dropped a degree. No way could I enjoy your high temps AQ.
What beautiful photos of fireworks you have given us. I missed the London display - we put Jools Holland on briefly to do the countdown. The meal went well, plenty of wine and champagne were drunk and a late night was had by all. Yesterday my OH' first job was to light the pizza oven. It has become a bit of a NY tradition - in all weathers! After a very light breakfast we had a bracing couple of hours walk, and oddly could not be persuaded to take a short diversion to the pub! We then settled down to a Christmas present game - Rummikub - which was good fun.
Sorry to hear about your vertigo patriciat, I do hope you feel better quickly. No a good experience I feel.
Just chilling today after such a busy time, but have put all the goose fat in a casserole and popped it into the bottom of the Aga to render the remains of any fat. I already have one Kilner jar full from the inside of the bird. Absolutely yummy for good old roasties.
