Evening all: Happy New Week!

  • OG hope you enjoy your weekend in Carnoustie.   Agree you live in an area well worth visiting. OH and I have had a few short breaks staying at Creebridge House Hotel and enjoyed walking in Galloway Forest Park with our first Golden Retriever Harvey. Creebridge House was dog friendly, a must as far as we are concerned. Hope son living with you works out ok.

    ANNETTE, OG beat me to it. I was going to mention Tobermoray on Isle of Mull. We sailed from there to Staffa and Fingals Cave. Our last Goldie was called Fingal after the cave and Mendelssohns' wonderful piece of music written after his visit there.  See if I can post a photo.

  • Hi all, another routine day although have been putting things together in my case, virtually packed. OH has still to do his.  Been a miserable day today with quite a bit of rain but it is welcome here as we have had it so dry for so long.

    Cirrus,  hi hope all is well with you.

    Sandy -  don't leave us, keep posting from time to time and can you post the link for the owls again, please, I've lost mine.

    Lindybird - lovely views and how marvellous to get the pic of the turtle.  I think I said it was Kos I visited a few year back, it was Zakynthos of course which is just across the water from Kefalonia.  Lovely holly tree, like the one at Sisley Cottage, so many berries. Its probably because of the hard winter, warm spring etc.

    Margo -  lets hope that they have now got the pain under control for your sister. BiL seems to be soldiering (can't spell) on but at least DN and MacMillan nurse will be visiting. Keep your pecker up and always thinking of you and yours. On todays update Lily seems to have been scraping the forest floor a lot and it showed a pic of her bedding in the den.

    OG - great holiday pictures - so picturesque.   Crikey, 14, you are popular!!

    ValC - nice to hear from you hope all is well

    Dibnib - lovely to hear from you again and already a year since the leg was broken.  Hope it has healed well. Not sure what a Papillon is but obviously a type of dog, glad Dillon got on with it.

    HeatherB -  how typical of a child to say what he did say, so honest and innocent at that age!!!!!!!

    A few pictures to follow from todays safari at Djuma:

     baby hippo, next one having a bathe

    not sure what these next birds are but were caught on camera on the safari

  • Hi everyone.

    So sorry I haven't posted for ages.  My thoughts and best wishes are with you all.  I'm hoping to get into the habit of posting more regulalrly.

    Had a Wren visit the garden on Tuesday.  Don't get them very often, so I was delighted to see one on the shrub just outside the kitchen window.  I always think they have a really big presence for such a tiny bird.

    All the best :-)

    Paul.

    Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.

  • Paul - Glad to see you back. Missed your wicked humour.

    Enjoyed pics of OG (I guess she's on her way), Linda & Dibnlib.

    Margo - More hugs & prayers. Hope you can visit your sister soon.

    Our magpie saga is just about over. A few days ago Junior1 learnt to feed himself, except whan Momma was near. When she flies off he can manage. About 2 days later Junior2 stopped looking puzzled and discovered he was a big boy too. Meanwhile poor childless Auntie gets upset and often flies at the Juniors. I have seen the two Juniors scrapping vigorously too. We are discouraging them now as the young ones have normal beaks and can surely forage for themselves but we will continue to assist Momma & Auntie whose damaged beaks are getting shorter. Rather sad.

    I'm packed for weekend jaunt with all necessities - camera, charger, spare memory card, purse (for coffee & cake), sun hat, raincoat . . . oh yes and pjs & t'brush.

    Friday Smiles:
    I don't know what the Glenfiddich loos are like but Adelaide has an interesting place called Tap Inn, a hotel with an indoor golf driving range. The theme for the whole complex is golf & associated words. There are taps (also those that produce water), a restaurant called Birdies, the menu (with Aussie birds on covers) comprises tapas, and so on. I cannot vouch for this but I'm told the men's loo with oneway glass faces the receiving end of the golf driving range. (Somewhat unerving I would think.) The other loo is unisex but no red-blooded Aussie male would be seen in it LOL. The cubicle doors are see-through until you turn the lock. (Yes, I checked.) Inside each cubicle are all mod-cons including a hand-basin. The photos below show the main wall decorated with tiles. There is a theme here too . . .

    Some closer-ups

    A few years ago we took some English friends to dinner and I suspect they are still talking about weird Aussies.

  • OG: Moles make little tunnels, but only eat bugs; it's gophers that make little tunnels AND eat Entire Plants! Neighbors are students at local Uni and probably don't even venture out into their (not particularly well cared for) backyard. Doubt they'd notice if a dinosaur showed up. Thanks - and you dibnlib for the pix - re Tobermory; must now Google for more pix.

    AQ: Hmm yes, nothing like bathroom art to get your appetite going (or going away?). Gosh, you're off for the weekend too - have a good time!

    Lynette: Good grief! You're off too? Have a good time. (Certainly will be quiet this weekend.)

    Heron: Another long-lost blogger! Good to see you again. Don't worry about keeping up; life gets busy at times.

    Have a nice Friday all.

  • Good Morning:  Not much weather at all here, today (!)  Hope it makes its mind up soon. (will I need a coat?)

    Nice to hear from Heron again - hope all is well with you Paul.

    Must have missed OG now as they were leaving this morning - I thought originally that it was tomorrow, so too late for me to say "Have a Good Trip" - but I'll say it anyway!

    Lots of posts from Everyone.  Thanks to AQ for the Friday Smiles - love the loos, AQ!  And hope you enjoy your jaunt, too.    See that Lynette is packing - have a good holiday, Lynette, and tell us all about it later.

    We went to a country park last Tuesday, and of course Buzz was straight into the water - here he is enjoying himself and coming out rather damp....

    ~~~~  he really did enjoy himself!
    Thinking of you, margo - and have a Good Day All.
  •  Just logged in to let Margo know that I am still thinking of her and her dear sister.
    Lynette, here is the link to PPO and a pic I took at 9:40am our time this morning.
    Both huddled together sleeping :-)
    Take care all.
    If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
  • Morning all,
    Margo : I hope that your sister had a better day yesterday. I  really feel for  all your family at this difficult time.
    OG : I hope you enjoy your weekend trip to Carnoustie. It was a favourite place to visit when I lived in Dundee. We have never had LTTs in the garden and I have not seen any around and about this year although I have seen them in previous years. 14 goldfinches beats my 10 but you still have a way to go to reach the 20 that Sandra had. More nice  pics of your holiday.
    Linda : thanks for your report on the film 'Contagion'. I have seen trailers of it on the tele. I think there have been other films covering this idea but cant remember any specifically. Nice lot of berries on your holly tree. Our cotoneaster has lots of berries also this year.
    Dibnlib : Nice to see you on here again. Cant believe it is a year since you broke your leg. Thanks for the Tobermory pic.
    Heather : Loved you 'Mrs library' story.
    Annette : Your day sounded like an episode of 'Animal Rescue 24/7' which is a program on UK tv about rescuing animals and birds. Glad you managed to get out for a nice meal with OH.
    Lynette: Thanks for the pics. Glad you have your case packed soon. Hope you enjoy your holiday.
    Paul : Nice to see you back on the forum. We also have a wren that comes into the garden now and again but not seen it for a while.
    AQ : I hope you enjoy your weekend away. Interesting description of the loos with see through doors until you turn the lock.
    Thanks to everyone else for the chat etc.
    Back to the sunshine this morning and after the cloud and rain yesterday it feels much better. Not a lot planned for today so we will see what develops.
  • Don't forget Feed the Birds day is nearly here!  Hope you enjoy this:
