Weekly Chat, Sunday October 11, 2009

Hi all:

Lindybird: I responded to your post at the end of the last Weekly Chat.

  • What a magnificent sight Alan.  Have been looking on and off and up to now have only seen a couple of deer but this more than makes up for it.  It is almost as though he is posing centre stage for us.

  • Alan hope you are still watching he is having a doze now in the autumn sunshine.

  • Margobird : Awesome picture of him dozing. I love fallow deer. See them quite often in Southwick Woods and I have a discarded antler in the garden that my previous dog Bumble the black labrador found.

Morning all and especially Maureen. After all the excitement of the conkers and porridge it is back down to earth today. Speaking of spurtles, I used to have a wooden one but it seems to have got lost. Must save up for a new one.

Weather here on TI is beautiful this morning.

    Sunny . Temp 8.6c . Wind NNW 11mph . Visibility 50kms . Pressure 1027 rising.

Since beginning of September the weather has been great with hardly any rain. Reservoir levels are getting low in some areas.

Alan: Went down to RW this morning and the weather was absolutely glorious. Driving through the countryside it looked like midsummer (if you ignore the turning leaves!). It is almost drought conditions in the East Midlands. The water level was as low as I've seen all year. More worryingly I passed another reservoir (that supplies our drinking water) last week and I was stunned to see how low the water level was.

  • Alan he's really relaxing at the moment, can't stop watching him.  I live very near to the New Forest and you are very lucky to see them.  There is an enclosure where they put food out for them and earlier on this year I was lucky enough to see 2 white stags.

  • Sandy : I have not been to RW for a few weeks now but I am not surprised that the water level is low. It is a long time since we have had such dry conditions at this time of year. What does surprise me is that there has been very little reporting of the situation in the press. Usually they are panicking like mad and enforcing water restrictions. With another dry week forecast it is not getting any better.

  • He really is enjoying the snooze. Must have had a busy day in the forrest

  • Margobird : I have seen white stags once in the woods near Southwick. Again it was 2 but they were a very long way off in a group of about 12. Colours seem to vary quite a bit.

  • Morning all: Quick hallo and have to rush out again for the day. Will be passing one of the biggest Targets in the area (great all purpose store - NOT like Walmart) so may disappear in there for an hour or three.

LizF: If he was from Milwaukie, it was Oregon. If he was from Milwaukee (beer brewing town) it was Wisconsin.

Diane: Re "Raptor Force," yes, indeed, found the explanation of various raptors specialized biologies very interesting.

CaerannGary: Doesn't "Nature" typically repeat during the week? Check your local PBS station's online guide?

Lindybird: I like spending money too (although mostly in thrift/discount shops - do love a bargain!). But your hubby deserves big pat on back for dragging you along to bank meeting. Don't mean to strike a down note, but when I worked for American Association of Retired Persons, we were amazed at the number of widows who had no idea about their finances - and just last year a wealthy friend was widowed and she'd apparently never even written a check during her marriage!  She had to scramble to find the money for the funeral because she didn't know where the bank accounts were. Eeeek. So give your hubby big hug  - then go out and spend it.  :-)

George: Darn. Missed the Nat Geo program but will keep an eye out for re-run. Thanks.

Alan: Had to Google Rab C. Nesbitt to figure that out. But a great honor for Scotland, right?

OG. Thanks again for more photos of lovely horses. I wonder why  humans are so enchanted by them....

    Keep missing those stags.  :-(

Have a nice afternoon - and hope it rains for those of you in too-dry areas.  We are gray here today and it's such a change.  Love it! Gotta run.....

  • OG, really enjoyed your image of those beautiful horses.

Maureen !!!  HI   :) good fortune with new PC

    Patriciat   HI   :)

I've been out of the loop all weekend and so suppose I've missed whatever it is that Alan and Gary and all have been watching - stags. Ah well.

And I'm about to go to work to boot ! Looking forward to the sat update later.

Had a wonderful 12 miler in the Cotswolds on Saturday - thought I saw some Redwings but really not sure, it was probaby wishful thinking  . So enjoying these late Indian Summer days and keeping the Central Heating off !

'Lo there Daine AQ Wattle and Annette (not necessarily in that order  :)    )  Enjoyed the deer pics, thanks Annette.

Well, Tish, we got Maureen back , let's hope Karen is OK too.

Gotta go - work calls. See you all later ....
