Welcome, friends, to another month of the GABFEST, the Freedom blog where any topic is welcome. Check back to SEPTEMBER GABFEST. Just on the last pages we discussed Lily the Bear, Lemac the backward camel & Yellow OS (Oscar) the osprey, with photos of both direct from the Sahara; also a purple neon ocean and reports of ospreys flying over an oasis. Can you tell which is fact and which is fantasy? Sometimes it’s hard to determine on the Gabfest. Last summer we went on a fun-filled cyber space picnic, had a spontaneous music night and started a movie. All while following every movement of EJ & ODIN & TORE & BYNAC & ROTHES and reminiscing about MALLACHIE & GARTEN & DASHAR. We also had news & discussions of other nests, other wildlife, etc etc. We have lots more planned for this winter when osprey news is scarce & hard to come by. We expect to finish the movie, “Wild Mountain Thyme”, and I’ve heard hints that there might be a second one in the making. We expect to have at least one Music Night, planned in advance so we all know when to attend. We’re learning more about Africa as we follow KEITH, our wandering oil engineer, and surely he’ll have more tales to tell us when he gets back home to Scotland later this month. SUNSHINE will be telling us more of his birding adventures and I still have a few questions to ask him. BRIGHT & BREEZY is always good for an entertaining story or two and other regulars keep interesting conversation going. So come on in, pull up a chair in front of our cheerful fire and join us for fun & knowledge. You never know who might drop in.

Hi June thank you for starting the Gabfest for October, where has this year gone since we were all anxiously waiting for EJ and Odin to return in March and now an empty nest and tracking to follow and it is October already!
Everything was going wonderful and it does show what a dangerous life the Ospreys lead.
A couple of days and things have changed, firstly news that Rothes's transmitter is stopping working and now Einion 200 miles out over the Atlantic. I wonder if he was blown off course, I am no expert and got no idea. Dyfi will update as soon as they have information and here's hoping for good news.
Catch up with you all soon
Hi all - Just got into London after 2:00 and settled and switched on to see B & B news of Einion. Can not believe it Einion hanging around Dakar and thought just a quick hop to his new winter home - then Bang.
I can not understand all three birds reaching a similar latitude then taking a sharp turn directly West - unfortunately Einion was already on the coast. The cances of finding Cape Verde are slim but know Ospreys winter there. I wonder if he will turn round or meet up with Deshar - very worrying for both him and Rothes.
I now wonder where the other two are heading for - maybe one of the parent is from The Cape Verde Islands.
June thanks for the prelude to October Gabfest you write as if a novelist.
Will look in later tonight but have an early flight in the morning to Malabo so will have to go to bed early. Unfortuinately despite returning to UK can not make it up home to Scotland until 13 Oct.
I have thought it out and come to the conclusion that Einion was heading for the islands - have posted my theories on Non LG Ospreys tagged - who knows but lets hope so and he makes it.
Now that he is on dry land back to Dakar I can post a more lighter posting.
Yellow OS (Oscar) was no where around when I got up this morning to leave Algeria. I think after being been upset he has decided to continue his migration. He is not tagged for reasons not to be told so we will have to wait until he is next sighted before any updates.
I did not want to express my feelings on the tracking Ospreys non LG.
I am so impressed with Dyfi and the way they do not keep us waiting for information and fantastic news Einion is ok and what a fright. Einion flying directly to Spain over the bay of Biscay and all credit they said, not matter what we will report good or bad news. Then Dulas on the Windfarm. I did say maybe them wind farms might save his life as he did set off in the terrible winds here. Now Einion giving the biggest fright of all again.
Maria with her moths and Janine totally hooked and not certain who it is going to the Gambia and Senegal from Dyfi with the RW team. sure it Janine. So look forward to their reports and to be honest, I would donate for someone from LG, Richard only you left :) sure others would. I honestly think that Dyfi and RW are together and it would be brilliant if someone from LG went as well. Educating schools is what you like to do.
Bynack flying to Belgium it has not been easy for these young.
Lets just hope we now here from Rothes sometime - I would have loved to track him/her next season looking for his/her first nest and to see where he/she settled.
Keith here is hoping and good news on Einion and hopefully Rothes too.
I seriously would like someone from LG to go to Gambia/Senegal and bring news and all projects together.
Hopefully sights of yellow OS soon :)
JUNE - You do not have to put the Dyfi birds into your GE.
Go on to this page
www.dyfiospreyproject.com
Then on the home page click either Dullas, Enion or Leri and all the maps are there for you to see and reports written just like yours. It is a lovely page.
When I was in the dessert until two days ago when I could get to the control room this is the only site i could recover.
June, I have seen your post and the biggest fright today was Einion was out in the Atlantic and fabulous news he made it back. Now Bynack my favourite what is he going to do next. Not sure if I can take the rollercoaster ride and goes to show in two days from everything perfect and now "HIGH DRAMA"
The young Ospreys have a very hard and difficult journey and have learned so much this year.
Another years time last years unringed chicks might return and really sad no-one ever mentions them. I would like to think that they are safe but the sad news is we will never know and I miss titch so much and all of them.
B & B sometimes this is better not to know - My locals at Lochter were never ringed and was excited when I went down to the nest daily end of March beginning of April awaiting to see if they had come back. They did return but the nest was like Aberfoyle as it failed. Don't know where they are now or if they got there but I shall put on my wooly hat in late March and look for them as well as the other locals I watch out for. There young from 2010 - every time I see a young two or three year old around Lochter area I will imagine it is there offspring returning and that is how I like it.
