Hi All:
jsb: At the end of the previous Weekly Chat are two responses to your posting about the birds with French accents. One is from me and not especially profound. The other is from Diane, and reads as follows : Lovely article. I always have two pairs of house wrens (known as jenny wrens here) who return about the same time in the spring. Even though both females are house wrens, I can always tell which bird is singing, no matter where they are. I don't know whether the slight difference is because they winter in different regions or because individual wrens have distinct sounds. I always put up houses for them, but, this year, one pair decided that it would be more fun to nest in the nook above my propane gas tank, where the dials and controls are. So I had to fiercely guard the nest from the gas company employees who periodically check the gas levels. The gas company guys think I'm looney but they didn't dare to defy me and bother the wrens!
Everyone: AQ posted this one: Adelaide 10.50 am 12 C. Pumpkin soup for lunch thanks to friend giving me 2 large butternuts. Today is the Bay to Birdwood Classic for cars 1956-1977. Once upon a time they left from Glenelg (the Bay), but lack of space means they now leave from West Beach (2 km north). They travel about 70 km (44 miles) to Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills where there is a Motor Museum. Next year is the run for the Vintage cars (pre-1956). A picnic day. A bit chilly today but not as chilly as Wattle's.
And Teresa had this tip: If you delete something by mistake it is worth holding the Ctrl key down and clicking on Z. In lots of instances it undoes your last action - not always though but still worth a try.
AQ and Teresa: Hope it was okay to copy and paste your comments on this page - didn't want anyone to miss them.
Hello, Margobird. Having a sparrowhawk in ones own garden! Oh you blessed girl :)

jsb Thank you SO much for the reminder about Scotland Revealed. I've just finished watching the final episode. Just OUTSTANDING.
Yes, Carol, thank you too. shall record Autumn watch whilst I'm at work this evening and enjoy the programme when I get home. I'm sorry Bill Odin has been sufferring and hope they'll bring him back for Springwatach.
Tersa - I enjoyed the map you uploaded - thank you. It was good to have a closer look at Rothes' location. Bit short on perrenial rivers. !! She and Mallachie were not that far distant at one point were they !!!!
It is wonderful to see and I feel very honoured that she visits. The down part is she has now and then caught a baby bird. They all have to eat though and I can cope with this, it is cruelty to animals that really makes me sad.

Morning all!
So, cooler in many places on the other side of the pond. We have a warm day today, then coastal temperatures will drop into the 60s next week; some places up in the valleys will drop into the 30s at night. We also have the start of Fall color here, which will last well into December for some trees, at which time, the camellias will start blooming. We do have some spectacular tree color in our immediate neighborhood; I'll try to take some photos this year and post them on my page.
jsb: Thanks for the update on Scotland Revealed. I'm so immersed in our marathon National Parks program and house stuff that I've still not managed to see any of it, but have it bookmarked. It sounds wonderful from all the rave reviews on this page.
Diane: Oven in; no idea how to work it. We now have a kitchen full of appliances that ding, chime, chirp, trill, beep, glow, blink, and flash. We may be using the old "wind-up" toaster oven and microwave for a few weeks yet until I've had a chance to read all the instructions.
Auntie: Do keep us updated on Jukka's route (on this or the other forum that Cirrus mentioned). Now I have to go check on exactly where Belo Russia is. :-)
Cirrus: I know you mentioned on the Main Blog that you still had empty boxes on Google Earth. Where are they - in the menu on the left or are they still those colored ones from some weeks back?
So nice to know Rothes is close to her destination. Has anyone checked the YouTube videos on GE from that neck of the woods? Some are very interesting.
Take care all.
On the globe of the planet, Annette, there should be information in them. I can't even get a date in a place mark to show - it just comes up as ............ an empty rectangle without date next the yellow pin. The menus are just fine . The empty rectangles are just an 'off white' colour.
off to work soon so must just have a quick look at re-tuning my TV on the BBC website - not sure what it's all about since we don't go digital here until next March.
Jukka; see 2 posts on..........

Following Rothes across the desert made me think of the book/film DUNE with the desert planet Arrakis and the giant sand worms.
Evening all. Are we looking forward to the all new Autumnwatch tonight. OR, will we be out.??
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy. Spike Milligan

I ddon't know. I don't like Chris Packham at the moment. I'll have to think about it. I'll record it though.
Everything in life is speaking in spite of its apparent silence.
Annette: Do those newfangled appliances clean themselves? Now, that's what I need. LOL
Margobird: You're right. Wolf packs are so caring with their young. Our society could take a lesson. I so hope that the killing of the wolves can be stopped, and the western wolf packs can flourish again in the wilderness. I hope you are feeling well, Margobird!
