Hi All:
jsb: At the end of the previous Weekly Chat are two responses to your posting about the birds with French accents. One is from me and not especially profound. The other is from Diane, and reads as follows : Lovely article. I always have two pairs of house wrens (known as jenny wrens here) who return about the same time in the spring. Even though both females are house wrens, I can always tell which bird is singing, no matter where they are. I don't know whether the slight difference is because they winter in different regions or because individual wrens have distinct sounds. I always put up houses for them, but, this year, one pair decided that it would be more fun to nest in the nook above my propane gas tank, where the dials and controls are. So I had to fiercely guard the nest from the gas company employees who periodically check the gas levels. The gas company guys think I'm looney but they didn't dare to defy me and bother the wrens!
Everyone: AQ posted this one: Adelaide 10.50 am 12 C. Pumpkin soup for lunch thanks to friend giving me 2 large butternuts. Today is the Bay to Birdwood Classic for cars 1956-1977. Once upon a time they left from Glenelg (the Bay), but lack of space means they now leave from West Beach (2 km north). They travel about 70 km (44 miles) to Birdwood in the Adelaide Hills where there is a Motor Museum. Next year is the run for the Vintage cars (pre-1956). A picnic day. A bit chilly today but not as chilly as Wattle's.
And Teresa had this tip: If you delete something by mistake it is worth holding the Ctrl key down and clicking on Z. In lots of instances it undoes your last action - not always though but still worth a try.
AQ and Teresa: Hope it was okay to copy and paste your comments on this page - didn't want anyone to miss them.
Thanks, Tish ... great relief all round :))

Afternoon everyone.
Thanks George g. I have been watching that program and it is really good.
Thanks Tish. Just read the blog and very happy with the situation.
This morning I went to Glapthorn Cow Pastures which is an area of ancient woodland in Northamptonshire. I went in search of deer as I know that there are Fallow and Muntjac deer there. Unfortunately there were no deer today but it was lovely sitting on an old tree stump in the middle of the ancient woodland listening to the birds. Great peace and tranquility as I felt at one with nature. It is a beautiful warm day and although there were no deer today I did see plenty of squirrels including one nearly black one. Also many long tailed tits.
Sounds like a good morning Alan. There is nothing quite like being at one with nature. Time to reflect and just marvel in everything we have. Good news about Rothes and Mallachie, I was getting so worried and praying it would not be another Deshar tragedy bless him. As you said in your post R.I.P

Afternoon all. Sunny and windy day here temp. about 8C.
Just got home and read the diary update, good news! But must confess: I was a wee bit puzzeld first with that wasp nest. Because of my limited english skills, I first thought of WASP in the one US meaning...what... nests...WHAT? Then took my dictionary and ... OMG. Had a good laugh :))))

Alan, your morning sounded like Heaven. I was at the supermarket !!! Not Heaven !
Are black squirrels now becoming more common as we have one who is now a regular visitor to the birdfeeders? We have a couple who loook half grey/ half black. Our albino squirrel has now vanished. Badgers are our main problem. Hubby is in garden repairing last night's damage. When we see the numbers of ' road kill ' of badgers around this area it is astonishing how many seem to be around. Still think they are lovely animals though and wouldn't do anything to harm them.
Caerann, so sorry about Your job situation :( I have also been unemployed once and I think I can relete to some of Your feelings that You are going through now. But hang in there, will You! The economic situation is of cause depressing allmost all over the world, that it might take longer to get a new post, but good things happen to good people, it just might take a little longer.
Hello Auntie and first of all your english skill are excellent. It is our language that can cause some confusion at times, Such good news about Rothes and Mallachie as well.
It sounds extremely cold in Finland we are still in double figures here although the sun has disappeared today and it is going to get cooler.
Hi, Margobird (and thank`s for your kind words)
The weather here is normal for this time of the year. I think that our low degrees don`t feel as cold as they might feel there. It has propably something to do with our "drier air" and not beeing an island. I think, not sure.
When I was in Scotland, the winds felt more raw there than here.
Huzzah, huzzah, huzzah our girls are doing fine!!! Good news indeedly doodley!
Thank you Auntie for your kind words. If ever you are confused because in this group we are dealing with British English and American English both, please say so. As I post I'm trying not to use alot of American slang terms and Midwesternisms so I am being clear to all who read my entries. =O)
Annette: I am loving the Ken Burns series alot. I do hope it becomes available, on the BBC perhaps, as I think our friends here would be quite interested in the scenery and all the neat historical facts Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan are including in the film.
Alan
The black squirrels are moving north. They are a threat to the grey ones so far but will be a threat to the red ones as well if they move into their areas. Not a very happy situation at all as they are quite fierce I believe from what I have read about them
