Daily Update (LG Nest) Sunday, 7th August, 2011

A new day and a very wet one over many parts of Scotland. It does not look like migration weather to me at all. Still I do not think that any of the Loch Garten Family are thinking of  going just yet.

  • Thanks everyone for your updates, pics and vids.   Certainly has been a miserable day up at LG today.   All quiet and even the wide cam view is of the empty nest.

  • Oh dear.  I have just checked the weather forecast and it is terrible at LG for the whole of next week except Tuesday when there could be a slight respite.  EJ must have checked a dozen times today that she has her flip-flops, sun hat and AA guide to the Gambia packed and ready to go. This is not typical August weather at all. Parts of the east coast were flooded today especially Arbroath.  I do hope she gets away soon.

Has anyone seen Odin in daylight today?

Scylla and I saw him just before 5am, but he's not been confirmed as being seen during the day today, as I read it. Any inside info guys?

I've just come back to see this.  YES, I saw him land on the nest, look around briefly and then fly off.  It was sometime between 6:00p.m. and 7:25p.m. [I think.]

The reason I didn't post was that I thought that someone else would.  I was scrolling through the day's posts and vids etc.

Sorry I can't be more specific about the time.

EDIT:  I have changed my post to show p.m.

  • Re Odin. Saru on the Finnish forum posted what appear to be photos of Odin at 20.56 their time, which would be 18.56 in the UK. This fits in with what Daisy Ray says above.

  • Thank you Daisy Ray and Sue C. I was all concerned with the thought of EJ going, and then realised that I hadn't seen Odin for hours.

That's me done for today. See you tomorrow :o)

  • That's OK.  I understand your/our concerns regarding these lovely birds.  Glad to be of help.

    Goodnight, moffer.

  • How nice to see that EJ and family have fans in Finland :-)  Thanks for the reassuring link, SUE-C :-)

DAISY RAY, I would have used your info to try to find Odin on the video, am quite relieved not to have to ;-)

I totally agree, Scylla.  It was lovely to read about the ospreys in Finnish.  I am used to "reading" about the Baltic Sea ice conditions every day, during the winter on the Finnish website:  http://www.itameriportaali.fi/fi_FI/valisivu/

I find it fascinating that the ice can be so different in different parts of the Baltic; but also so different from day to day.

As to trawling through lots of footage, Scylla, I think you are a marvel.  I do hope you are sleeping better now that the weather has changed somewhat.  Is your inside feeling better too?  :-))

  • Whatever the weather, I alternate between oven and fridge mode every few minutes - hot weather just tips me over the edge ::)

I see that the Finns are also keeping an eye on radiation and blue-green algae :o

Have we seen CIRRUS today?  I still have to go back to save some of the wonderful photos, must double check for our dear friend.

Talking of CIRRUS and trawling thru footage, here is 14-odd minutes of EJ from the infamous corrupted stream - was it on the 5th?  You'll see the flaws which were causing problems, this was all I could salvage - but I know that CIRRUS loves nothing better than to feast her eyes on EJ ;-)  Me too.
