Daily Update (LG nest) Wednesday, July 20,2011

Since neither Tiger nor Daisy have begun the new day, I will oblige since I am here. :-/

The next step for the youngsters will be if and when they learn to fly off the nest with fish in talon to go eat in a tree like their Dad. Of course, since the siblings seem to get along so well, perhaps they feel no need to do this. On the other hand, what is instinctual, and what is not? We shall see...

  • cc-Thanks for starting the thread . I doubt we will see them until later today. They will be sleeping off  yesterday's feast. :)

It IS amazing how well these two get along.

It is  thought they all migrate alone. I wonder if these two will  break that rule and  leave together? Since they are both tagged we will know if they  follow the same route. I think this will be a  very interesting season to watch the migration.

  • Evening all: CC; thanks for starting the thread.

Hey Barbara: I missed everything today, but sounds like there were a lot of fish.

Daughter is arriving tomorrow, so lots to do today and still more.....take care; will try to check in tomorrow...

  • Yes,I think it will be great to follow them both. But we will have to be careful not to have unrealistic expectations for their survival. There's a high mortality rate.

One thing good about little Flag NOT being tagged is that we will never know if he met his demise at a fish farm in Colombia or Dominican Republic, or flew out to sea, or hit a storm on the way... we would have liked to have him ringed, though, so if he turned up anywhere we would know it was him! In good circumstances --- like if he came back to his natal nest!

BTW, what are you doing up!?

  • I am finishing a Birthday card for my Grandson. I need to mail it tomorrow.  I make all of my cards so I can give cards that  reflect their interests and I write my own greetings/poems  for the inside . This way I have a card that says what I want to say.

  • Morning All, its another damp & dreich day here, looks OK up at LG though.   Again we find the nest empty and the wide cam doesnt show like there is anyone at home there either, or is there LOL.... here we go again imagination running riot.

CC you are right about our expectations for Tore and Bynack, I just dont want to think about the possibility of them not actually making it down to Africa, there are going to be a lot of tears and heavy hearts if anything happens to them, thats why I am dreading the day they leave, not only for the fact that we will not be able to watch over them every day and talk about their antics, but for worrying about the dangerous journey they are about to take, so whilst sat.tagging is wonderful to know where they are but the downside is we will know all the facts and this the sad fact is some us dont want to hear bad news.   I did look in on the blog in 2008 occasionally but didnt join the community, when I read about Deshar's sad tale I was distraught like everyone else and thought I dont think I can do this, and didnt check in 2009 & 2010, however after visiting LG in May this year when EJ was sitting on the eggs, I started to webcam watch, as soon as Tore popped out of her shell that was me well and truly hooked.   So lots of community prayers please for the safe journey for all four of them.

  • Morning all ... thanks for overnight reports. When I logged on there was an empty nest, an empty tree ... and not a sound of an osprey :-(( Have to get used to that now!
