Just been reading an article from a link on the Derby Cathedral Peregrine site ... 137 birds of prey found massacred in Malta ... including marsh harriers and honey buzzards. Absolutely awful. Link is below if anyone is interested.

Thanks jsb, I'll go back and have a proper look at that
Djoan, that is so terrible, don't know what more to say about it:((

A gasp from me when reaching this after the "silliness" (no condemnation - enjoyed it) of earlier today.
Shocking picture to begin the report - and tearful when reading details of these beautiful birds.
Protest - education - what can we do to stop the killing, wherever it happens?
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
Djoan: Ghastly news about the Malta birds. Just awful. Malta's a tourist destination isn't it? I wonder how a boycott of the island would work. But who would publicize it and would there be enough people who'd support it to make a difference? Governments don't care about this kind of stuff until it starts affecting their economy.
jsb: You are a voice for reason in today's madness and we do appreciate your efforts to help sort us out with the internet/video stuff.
Everyone:Tthanks so much for some really good laughs today. I'm blaming my general giddiness on the fact that the kitchen floor is down, grouted, and set in stone - well, ceramic tile anyway. Now off to gym. Have a good evening folks.
Good morning everyone! (By the time I finish typing this, it'll be about 8.15 am here in NSW Australia. We have had very high winds here for a couple of days now, with very wild thunderstorms and hail in some parts of NSW and South Australia, where AQ lives. This morning Sydney woke to the worst dust storm they have ever experienced, with all ferries cancelled and all international flights being diverted to Brisbane. We live about 200 miles west of Sydney, as the crow flies, and we are well-used to dust storms here. The dust is coming from central Australia, and shows just how dry it is there. While AQ has been getting torrential rain and hail, we have had only wind, dust, and not enough rain to register in the gauge. However, we have had SOME rain, which has been falling as mud. This morning I looked out my back windows and this is what I saw:
Believe it or not, this mysterious shape is a young currawong visiting the perch we have installed just outside the window!
Smiles, Jan.
wow, Jan, that is some wild weather. Don't envy trying to clean windows/cars after that
Bless those poor innocent creatures and may they find a better place to be a bird than they had here.
Adelaide 8.40 am. I have been giggling over the "silliness" - what a great start to my day - and then, down to earth with the news of the Malta birds.
ALAN, I presume you are wearing Hamish's lampshade while your jaw recovers.
ANNETTE, Anzac bikkies are traditional biscuits (maybe you would call them cookies) baked by wives & mothers in World War I, packed in food parcels and sent to the Aussie diggers (soldiers) at Gallipoli , France, etc. They contain plain flour, coconut, oats, sugar, butter (or margarine nowadays), golden syrup, carb soda & water.
Now I must go or I'll miss my bus. Bye.
