Hallo all. It's a brand new week!

  • Oh thanks Diane. That happened to me - but didn't wait the 30 seconds, then the computer hung up when I clicked to the standard version. We have cable here - not sure if that's faster/slower than DSL - I think it's slower when more people are online 'coz (I think) it's a shared system, if you get my drift. What I did see full-screen at the start was spectacular. Will have to try again.

  • Annette: Hi! Glad you had a lovely brunch. Sounds like you got more than you bargained for with the moving. LOL  Yeah, the HD version of the program ran wonderfully. Just be patient while the player and your connection/system shake hands. I saw a blank, gray screen for a time, and then, boom, great HD! I would think that cable should be fast enough, although you're right about signal degradation during peak times.

Well, I'm tired so I'm going to watch some more of this program and be off to bed. Have been cranky all day.

Cirrus: I'm so very happy for you. Yay!

  • Hope you have a better day tomorrow Diane.

  • Monday morning to all. It`s a warm (16C) cloudy morning here. Somebody is using a leafblower under my window, oh dear the noice... why don`t they use rakes anymore.

  • Tish: good to see a photo about Tesco in Aviemore. Thank God there is a one, imagine the LG team trying to solve that situation by using fishingrods ;)

Annette: thank`s for clearing the timezone difference

But now off to work, have a nice day everybody!

  • Re: stv, the HD or SD versions of Scotland Revealed, I am glad that those who watched it, enjoyed it. I will post a reminder here when this week's episode is on-line. With the connection problems, there are two things that could be tried, wait until a time of day when the connection may be better, or use the SD option. It is great that you could receive it OK, since for example the BBC iPlayer, which offers much more content, hundreds of programmes, is blocked outside the UK as far as I know and is not available in France for instance, because I have tried.

The delay that some people saw, is the computer storing the data (buffering) until it has a reservoir of data so that, as it runs the programme, the streaming from the internet keeps the level static and if the connection slows down, the reservoir is gets emptied and then the picture hangs, until it can restart.

Troubleshooting, ask someone who is either under 20, or over 70, as everyone else is too busy to become a computer expert! If you still have problems, try another site like, say Disney or one with film (movies) trailers, to see if they work OK.

  • Hello Annette have posted the following on the blog page but thought I would put it here as well  as I thnk this is the page that gets looked at the most now.

Good morning all and I am really looking forward to the udate tonight if Alice has the time of course.  Can't wait to see if Rothes has decided it is time to leave France with all that bad weather also if our Mallachie has moved further on.  I wonder if Roy Dennis is worried about Talisman as he had not left Scotland at Roy's last update.  He must be the only osprey in Scotland now so I am hoping he has set off.  I wonder what the latest date on record is for an osprey starting off on its migration.  The weather down here in/Southern England is still very good, lots of sunshine and really warm during the day but there is rain forecast for Scotland so come on Talisman time to leave.  I am posting  a link to an American osprey site which I have been watching for the last couple of years.  No web cam but photes and lots of satellite tagged birds and it makes for interesing reading together with maps.  They seem to have had an extremely good breeding season this year so there are lot s of young ospreys on migration, together with older birds.  It may be that you all know about this site but have put it on anyway

    www.bioweb.uncc.edu/.../2009_map_links.htm

I could read aoubt ospreys all day long as they are such beautiful birds.

Did anyone see Country File last night, there was a piece about Eagles in Scotland and the debate about whether they take live prey such as lambs.  Eagle supporters say that they don't, they only  only take dead prey.  Bit of a worry though that they are still under threat after taking such a long time to get them to breed and increase the population of eagles.  Have a good day all.

  • Margobird:  you're right - I tend to use this site more than the blog page so thanks for your post on the ospreys.  (I feel more comfortable here as I tend to go off topic!)

Auntie :  I bet it was a man using the leafblower (sorry boys!).  It's more macho.  A rake is far too  simple and doesn't make a scary noise!

  • Hi Aunite:   My leaf blower is called a lawn mower. My lawn mower is very well mannered (no strident power noise - low gentle working noise) and I simply 'mow' my lawn (using slightly higher-ed blades) and the leaves go into the grass box a treat!  Any loose leaves on my borders make free mulch over the winter. But I agree, the boys like noise and gadgets. Sorry boys!

Talisman is not the only Osprey still in Scotland - I was at Caerlaverock WWT yesyerday and the juvenile there had been seen (with prey) on Saturday.

Geese are arriving at Caerlaverock now - numbers increasing daily.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
