I offered yesterday to start a new Topic once Bynack had fledged, but as we now have the updated Satellite Tracking page, and biography pages for Tore and Bynack, and there are some tracking results for Tore on Google Earth, I’ve gone ahead with it.
A brief introduction to the ospreys we’re tracking – first, the class of 2011.
Tore – link to her Biography
Tore is the elder of this year’s juveniles, her ring is blue/white 48. She fledged on Tuesday 12th July aged 54 days, and has started to do a little exploring.
Bynack – link to his Biography
Tore’s younger brother, ring blue/white 47. Bynack is aged 53 days today and has yet to fledge.
Edit: He has fledged, at 10.18 am today 16/7.
Rothes – link to her Biography
Rothes is the eldest of EJ and Odin’s offspring, hatched at Loch Garten in 2009. Her ring is white/black PJ. She migrated as a juvenile to Guinea-Bissau, and spent her formative months on the small island of Unhocomozinho, in the Bijagos Archipelago. Now a sub-adult, she has travelled north to Europe for the first time this summer and is currently in the Gironde estuary in SW France, where she also spent 6 weeks on her way south in 2009. So far, she has not returned to the UK.
Rothes' earlier travels were followed in this thread, now closed.
May I ask are the sat tags fitted to Tore/Bynak and software only downloading every 3 days or so. We had daily updates when rothes and mallachie migrated - remember all there stopping points and track through UK on a regular basis.
Tiger (In response to 20/8) - Tallisman (Black and White 6R) first bred 2005 with Red/White 21 (Female) and reared 2 young one of which was translocated to Andalussia on the Spain project. Not sure what ring number this was given black/yellow - maybe this is the bird that was spotted 28 and mentioned by Valm but I will never know.
2006. 2007, 2008 he paired with Logie rearing 1 in 2006, 2 in 2007 and 2 in 2008 before pairing with Morven after Logie failed to return.
I knew of Tallisman and logie from the tagged birds in 2007 and 2008 the idea was that we would have Female, male and youngsters from the same nest to see where the young go either following logie or tallisman - we never knew as all four young never made it out of the UK and Roy never managed to catch Tallisman until 2009. Both Tallisman and logie were my favourites and was sad to here first of the demise of Logie in 2008 and tallisman this winter but then I am not emotional as I know it is the life of Ospreys.
I have worked with Tallisman Oil (Canadian Oil company) in the North Sea many times and was thankful to them for their sponsorship of birds some named after their assets (Beatrice Rig in the N sea). It may have beeen the link that got me interested in this particular nest.

Keith This issue has been pursued today already; see the final comments - especially Caroline's - on the previous LG blog.
Yes although Beatrice is on the face of it a romantic name - associations with Dante and all that - I had read that she was in fact named after an oil rig!
Yes she was I have been on the Beatrice platform - the staff follow Beatrice as they sponsored the bird through talisman oil. Trouble is I had to educate them as they thought they only migrate to Spain.
NEW COMMENT from Caroline on the Blog with first information on new Satelite Data!
Tore in the South part of Enland, Bynack 50 kms south from home (strange but true), Rothes happy at the fshfarm.
Cats and women will do as they please. Dogs and men should relax and get used to it.
QUOTE: B.L.O.G. FROM CAROLINE
Satellite data is in! Thanks to Jason for all the info this morning..
Tore - She headed off SE from NW Anglesey on Thursday afternoon 18-08-11, spent the night in the Menai Straights area, then on Friday headed across Wales and the English Midlands to the Cambridge area, where she stayed the night and all day Saturday. Then on Sunday she headed across to the Suffolk coast (for some reason there was no data from 9:00 am Sunday to 7:00 pm Sunday). This morning she is still on the Suffolk coast near The Meare, Thorpeness.
Total distance approx 300 miles, 480 km.
Rothes - She continues to fly around the Bordeaux fish farm and area – flying down south a few miles then back, and then flying north a few miles and back – total distance approx 50 miles, 80 km.
And the one you're all waiting for...
Bynack! After staying close to the nest until 10:00 am Sunday, he has suddenly taken off to fly high over the Cairngorms, with the last sighting high over Ballater yesterday noon. Is he on his way?
Total distance approx 30 miles, 48 km.

Thanks Alex and Mary Tore is down my way then, migrating ospreys are often seen here on the coast. Byanck has definitely flown but I saw the weather forecast just now and they are saying it is going to be a very unsettled week.
Margobird
Margo I dont suppose we will stop worrying until we know they are safe and sound down in Africa!!!
And I'm sure we will find new reasons to worry even then...
Google Earth has updated!!
