Daily Update (LG Nest) Wednesday, 13th July, 2011

Well, after a hugely exciting day yesterday and a record thread, what will today bring? Will Bynack fledge at 50 days old or will he wait for another day?

Guess we will have to wait and see. No prophecies from me as I am usually wrong....mind you, having said that, I didn't do too bad with Rothes and Rothimurchus migration times did I? :)

Ok, will stick my neck out and say Bynack will wait another day at least. Ok come on, prove me wrong Bynack! :)

  • Hi :-)

Thanks for starting the thread Chloe.

Thanks to everyone for all the posts, pics, and vids on yestarday's update everyone.  I should be really swearyworded off at missing Tore Star the Magnificant, fledging. Thanks to scylla I've seen the brilliant moment.  Ospreytastic!!!! :-)  Needless to say it's been bookmarked.

I'm sitting here wondering what was in Tore's mind when she took her first flight.  Needless to say you couldn't wipe the smile off my face with an angle grinder :-)

  • Hi Paul

When Tore fledged she just jumped and took off with determination. Not like others who  were  batting their wings and then got  a lift and flew. If you look at the video again she  looked carefully in the direction she intended to fly. Amazing. She is a  quiet one like Rothes.  She doesn't start something and change her mind . She just  does things with  determination.

  • Hi Barbara

It was a fantastic fledging.  Really loved the way she just looked so expert like when she took off.  Hardly like a novice at all.  She does things with determination, just like you say :-)

They're both wingercising now.  One started (not sure who) this woke the other one up and now we've both Tore and Bynack awake, wingercising, and looking brilliant as ever.

  • Hi, all. Congrats and safe journeys, Tore! I predict that Bynack will fledge on Friday morning -- on the Full Moon! The Full Moon occurs at 7:40 A.M. Loch Garten time on Friday. :-))) Thanks so much to Scylla, CC, and everyone who has been contributing videos, still captures, and great commentary.

  • Tore and Bynack, decided to have a preening contest a few minutes ago :-)

  • Hi Diane :-)

It'd be just like Bynack to fledge on a Full Moon Friday.  Well he is like his dad, in that Super Osprey kinda way :-)

  • Hi everyone, I can't talk to you cos I'm busy going thru my YouTube videos adding "Courtesy of RSPB Lock Garten & Carnyx" to the 236 (having deleted a few on the way) titles *gasp* I'm about a tenth of the way thru *puff*

I've also been back to 30th June - The Great Tagging Day - to see how I could have kept the misconception that it was Bynack who was traumatised by the event.  You tried to put me right, Chloe, but you were too mild, you should have punched me on the nose to get my attention ;-D

Nothing daunted, here is a video of our reunited siblings wingercising and chilling in the night.  I haven't stopped to ID which is which, but see the highlighted talons on one :-)

  • Hi scylla :-)

All the best with going through the Youtube videos.  The one in your last post is brilliant :-)

  • Getting much lighter at LG and its just after 3am LG time.  I wonder if Tore will wait for breakfast or will her newly found skill be too tempting to resist a pre-fish flight?

BTW Anyone know the Osprey for: "I can see the pub from here!"? ;-)
