Some of you will be familiar with frustration nests. When a nest fails the pair often build a frustration nest.
This of you who have read Scottish Ospreys (page 70) will remember how it was the discovery of a frustration nest in the Sluggan pass in 1955 alerted the powers that be that ospreys were nesting in Scotland.
The reason I bring up this topic now is that there are reports of a frustration nest at Loch of The Lowes. I have no details yet.
Sometimes frustration nests are built up into real nests the following season but more likely they are abandoned.
I do believe that the new nest at Bassenthwaite started as a "frustration" nest last year. Mind you that was odd because Bassenthwaite was a successful nest last year. However the Bassenthwaite female ha been known to like a change of scenery in the past. Just as well she is not at Loch Garten!!

ROFL Tiger
Found it Tiger but not been used since 7 Jul. I have moved it to the top again and will read and see if I get answers. thank you
I am curious about frustration Nests now it seems maybe Lowes has one. Hopefully we can find answers here :)
Keith what I am interested in, I did read before that there was a frustration nest at Lowes and delighted they have reported it and they are going to keep us informed. Thank you very much Lowes. Although they do not know and have said they will try to find out. It maybe not Laird but it does seem likely to be him. Sorry, question's for you and the Tiger.
Lady and Laird did bond before she left.
Will Laird desert her next yr, or will he come back, sorry that is not answerable because until next year we will not know however I think I have read reports about pairs breaking up.
Do they use the new nest, somehow I cannot see Lady using it
Do you think Lady has contributed to it. I find this fascinating and hope you all do not mind.
Laird was always a nest builder with all the sticks he brought in, so I can imagine he has built a strong nest :)
Not Frank but Bob the builder :)
It is fascinating isn't it? Something else to look out for next season!!!

Well the current nest at Loch Garten was the frustration eyrie from 1958. Frustration eyries are not normally built into real nests but sometimes they are.
Pale Male and Lola used the Beresford each year after their Fifth Avenue nest had failed but never used it as a real nest.
