So we reach Day 43 for chick  #1 and 38 for chick #2 Of course there is this handy clock by Chloe B

    Richard said on the main blog they brought them down one at a time because it takes quite a while to accomplish the ringing and tagging. EJ gets too upset of at least one chick is not  quickly returned to the nest. When there are 3 chicks they just  ring the  youngest one and  quickly return it to the nest so EJ sees it .  She sits in the tree next to the nest during the ringing.

    I would need to re-read yesterday's posts, but "I think"  they brought down chick #2 first so that would be why it  got  ring #47. Then chick #1 got ring #48

    It appears that Roy assigned the  leg ring numbers in the order he ringed/tagged  them

    I agree and it makes perfect sense.  They took chick#2 down first - and observations after the event on the Daily Thread concluded that the 2nd chick to be returned (who was on the left of the webcam at the time) was the first up who was Star .  But, Richard's blog said they took the largest chick first??

    Yes which is why it is odd they didn't use the number 47 first. There must have been an appreciable difference in the sizes to say that Tore was female and Bynack male.

    I think I have spent far too much time editing photos recently and it has addled my brain :) I have a head full of Puffins, Kittiwakes, Terns etc etc. Must get it focused back on ospreys :)
