Morning all: Happy new week.

MARGO: Welcome back!! :-))

Wendy: Thanks for keeping us up to date on Margo's Big Adventure.

dibnlib: How nice to bump into Margo et al.

Lindybird: Yes, June Gloom highly predictable; if you know of anyone planning to come to California in June, tell them not to expect beach weather, but can be pretty hot away from the coast. Re new dark countertops that don't show dirt, have been horrified to find globs of dried up sticky stuff on ours; now have to bend over and catch the light on the surface to see what needs to be scrubbed.

Diane: Only four feet from a deer? Wow. Pretty impressive, especially after looking at the pix! Maybe whistle a happy tune or put bells on your shoes next time?

Jay-Me: Vacation time sounds nice and relaxing!

Lynette: Thanks for clarifying which part of you is hurting! :-) Nice that all your furniture is finally set up; now enjoy it.

OK, off to fix dinner; back later.

  • Update on Scottish Power, they have just withdrawn from sale, the tariff that I signed up to last week. I found the prices attractive, which already included the August increase. It was only released about two weeks ago, but was not generally known about, because the newspapers concentrated on the announcement of the August increase on the same day. I have read that OFGEM are breathing heavily down the necks of SP.

See the first entry on this webpage.

    Power news updates.

There is a useful rms price update feed on the above website. Top right on the page.

  • Lots of new pics on here since this morning!  - Thanks OG - loved the Siskins and Goldfinches!  Nice that you're feeling more 'the thing' but don't get carried away, and overdo it.

Grateful to Alicat for the link to the explanation of poor Jason the bear's death - very sad.  Life is so fragile.

Tiger:  Love the pic of Opal.

Here are a couple more pics of our trip to the Country Park the other day - Buzz does love his swim, and gets more than just wet - he's soaked!

    First he annoyed the swans....

-- but he's not really interested in them, at all, so no harm done...

  • Thanks for that link, jsb - the power companies have had it their own way, for far too long.

Sorry about your frozen dinner! - hope you had something else handy to eat instead!  My favourite trick is to put something in the microwave, then forget it and find it by the next day.

  • More pics of our walk -

Then we walked around the lake, with a damp dog in tow...

--there is a coot on a nest, here, if you look carefully!

    - after that, we took him home again! (he dried out all  f l u f f y ).

  • Lindybird: Lunch was OK really, as I was blogging at the time, I popped my M & S French Baguette in. I don't like them defrosted though, too chewy! I buy a few at a time and freeze them immediately. The early days of microwaves, in the late '70's were hilarious, with all the disasters that happened. I found that you could superheat water above 100degC, so that when you put in say, instant coffee, the cup boiled immediately.

  • Hi folks, just lost my post by catching a wrong key so here goes again.

Alicat - missed the link for Jason so thanks for that, it certainly looks as if it may have been a predator which got hold of Jason briefly.

AQ - Christchurch is really going through it with more aftershocks and further quakes.

Patriacat - do hope these latest troubles will dissipate. It seems to be a younger element that is involved, am I right?    Keep safe.

Osprey - so pleased you managed to see a osprey in the flesh, so to speak.

OG - what a great variety of bird life you attract, I only seem to get the starlings, chaffinch's, sparrows, blackbirds, collard doves, wood pigeons, and of course the goldfinches when they make their appearance.  Put out some new bird food yesterday including  half-filled coconut, and two fat cakes - they have virtually all gone, eaten by the starlings. Delightful pics of your Mrs. Siskin, Chaffinch and Goldfinch and baby.

Lindybird - glad you enjoyed your Country Park walk and Buzz certainly seems to be enjoying himself.

Tiger - let's hope Opal takes to her new baby step-sister, she looks adorable.

Spent morning doing some housework and then aft. getting the airing cupboard emptied again ready for my builder to come and put up some shelves tomorrow.  He is also doing some in the bedroom and making a cupboard where the old heating system was housed so should have better storage facilities after this.  Really looking forward to next week away in France, just chilling out and seeing some new places. Was hoping to do the lawns today before we went but a heavy shower put paid to that, will try again tomorrow.

OK folks, I've gone on long enough.

  • Tiger, they are adorable chicks and why anyone would want to harm such a magnificent creature as Pale Male, heaven only knows.

As the report said, they seem heartless and callous re the positioning of the pigeon spikes.

  • Ironing done.

Lindy – enjoyed your photos from the Country Park – lovely swans, great view – and a nice wet dog!!

Tiger – more great photos of Pale Male’s children – I like the long fluffy pantaloons!  But what big, chunky feet!

Lynette – sounds like you will have a really tidy house with all the new storage – “a place for everything, and everything in its place”.  Sorry you couldn’t mow yet – I hope you can get it done before you go – it’s amazing how it can grow in a week, especially after recent rain.

Temp cleaner should reappear tomorrow – should have been last week but we would have been on holiday, so must be really bad because we were here all the time – although I dusted what I could and OH vacuumed last week.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
