Daily Update (LG Nest) Sunday, 19th June 2011

All quiet on the nest:

  • Scylla - do you mean Alan - not Alex?

  • It won't be too long now when  Odin cuts back on the fish deliveries.  The chicks need to be a little less stuffed to encourage them to get up and exercise/strengthen  their wings

    Formerly known as Barbara Jean

  • I expect so, Hazel.  It's all getting too much for me *o*  Thanks and apologies to Alan and Alex (no wonder he didn't know what I was talking about!).

  • Speaking of wing exercises, I thought I'd posted these earlier but apparently not (der!)  Taken a few minutes before the 1148 a.m. fish (which is probably why I lost the plot).  A little blurry but not easy to capture.  Star:

    Storm, not to be out-done:

  • Great pics Barbara Jean, Hazel and Alex.   Not been watching so missed another fish delivery.

Odin has done well today, even if he does get his landings wrong at times, you will never be bored watching him thats for sure....

  • @Scylla: he is a she :-)

No excuse necessary. Glad to understand now that the message about video formats was not for me :-)

Cats and women will do as they please. Dogs and men should relax and get used to it.

  • Family affairs in progress. Storm having a nap and Star doing a bit of preening with mum trying to snuggle them down with not much success.

Oh , hello EJ, she turned to the cam but is now looking alert. Star doing some wingercising and now Storm is getting up but only to relieve h/h self - trying to snuggle back under mum.

  • This is the aftermath of the something-past-7 meal which I totally missed.  EJ is calling vigorously with a series of monotones, almost, and a raised note at the end.  She then proceeds to do some housekeeping, moving sticks around, and all the while the Gems are clucking very sweetly with their heads together - unfortunately we can't see their beaks, I'm wondering if they're co-operating doing a bit of digging or twig-manipulation.  Then they all settle down together.

  • EJ and family at present. Snuggling her two bairns.

  • Hi everyone :-)

Well it's been a great day birdwise, with those Blackbirds, Blue TIts, Chaffinches, Coal Tits, Collared Doves, Dunnock, Feral Pigeons, Goldfinches, Great-Spotted Woodpeckers, Great Tits, Greenfinches, House Sparrows, Jackdaws, Magpie, Tree Sparrow, Starlings, and Woodpigeons.  And that's just in the garden.  Then turning to the laptop: Ospreys!!!!!  Being able to see glances of these wonderful creatures makes all those boring chores just that bit less mindnumbing.

Saw major mantling and alarm calling at LG this afternoon but didn't have time to comment.  I think among EJ's invitations to the intruder to partake of a well known two-word phrase which ends in "off!"  I thought young Star looked as if s/he was desperate to grow all flight feathers, in order to give chase.  I'll admit, my language towards the computer screen at that point, wasn't exactly polite.  Although in my defence, I did manage to resist the temptation to shout: "You leave them alone, pal!  Or Ah'll fly up there and chase ye my effing self!" LOL

Many thanks for all the fantastc posts, pics, vids etc from everyone.  It's always great to find out what's been happening at the nest.  Or to put in another way:  My name's Paul, and I'm an Ospreyholic :-)

Warning!  This post contains atrocious spelling, and terrible grammar.  Approach with extreme edginess.
