Another new week. I wonder what surprises it will bring?

  • OG - didn't realise you were having a bad bout of pain etc, do hope that the injection will work for you and that you will be considerably free from pain for a while.

SheilaFE - just loved Monarch of the Glen, it was a silly, nice, ambient, series, good for a Sunday evening, and of course the scenery, oh boy, that was the best bit. OH worked for someone who bought a hotel near there but don't really know how it fared.

Been baking tonight for our Junior Church Birthday Service on Sunday.  Cakes are wanted to have with the coffee and tea after the service, nice idea. Dau has to go into work again tomorrow for a few hours so has left me to do prep for Fathers' Day meal which we are having at home. Bless her, she wanted to do it but is unable to do so, I don't mind.

SheilaFE - hope your visitors appreciate all your tidying up!!!!!!!lol.

As for wind farms, I'm sure I read recently (Daily Telegraph) that they really do not deliver all that they say they will and it is perhaps not the road to go down. They wanted to erect one on the outskirts of a small hamlet close to Brixworth (where I live) but thankfully the protest by local people have scuppered it.

  • Dibnib - it sounds strange but I don't mind riding on the main roads, I prefer not to ride on pathways but that is my preference.  Allbeit it is only round the village so not as hectic as the main A96 which I suppose can be a bit daunting.

  • Happy Anniversary Alicat, enjoy your weekend with Bobbie & ospreys . . . and maybe there'll be a belated outing when OH returns.

The weather here is blissfully cool, about 16C max each day - so much better than the Berlin humidity, the Dresden sunburn. I shall get round to a brief survey of holiday when I don't feel so lazy. My cough has gone, thank goodness. But I am still sleeping whenever I sit to read or watch TV, then I go to bed and "sleep the clock round" as my mother would have said. I am just taking things slowly, pottering, getting meals, watching osps and that's about it. Thanks for all your thoughts.

  • Evening all: Having a really hard time keeping up with - well - everything!  Just a lot going on - all good, but seem to be busier than usual. Don't mind it too much since sun hasn't been seen for three days now (June Gloom - our usual coastal overcast) and so hammock not a temptation right now.

    Lindybird: Lovely Wirrel pix

Alicat: While is OH off on biker rally, obvious plan is for you to take yourself off somewhere nice (or with friend) for lunch/dinner and/or another indulgence.

Lynette: Good foot is getting better.

patriciat: Good luck with the contest.  Maybe you should organize a treat for yourself?

AQ: Relax and get over the jet lag and enjoy the cool temps.

Hallo everyone else; have a good Saturday!   :-)

  • Morning, Everyone.  Dull here, but not as damp as the last few days.  Warmer weather promised tomorrow.

Hope you can sleep it off, AQ!  Glad your cough is gone, anyway.  I enjoy travel but always find it tiring. Then I get too tired on arrival at places to go out and see stuff - frustrating.

Annette:  See you are as busy as ever.  Do you always get that cloudy bit in June, when the sea mist comes in?

Lynette:  Good that your foot is healing up  Sorry you've now pulled your back - take a hot bath... and have a rest.

Hope that OG is feeling a little better today.  Thinking of you, OG.

My OH has just gone off to put the final finishing touches to the kitchen tiling for our eldest -  he has had white tiles, with a black border all along the top edge - very modern. The new worktops are that dark green with black flecks and streaks in it, so I said at least it won't show the dirt!  He had a small dishwasher put in with the cupboards, too, and now finds that he runs out of pots and cutlery twice as quickly. Before, when we went around, there was usually a huge pile in the sink, so I can't see what difference that makes!

Youngest Son and Wife are coming up to see us on Friday next, when they are en route to a wedding in Glasgow. Not seen Sweetpea for a while, so expect to notice a big change in him. (he is 6 months old now, how the time has flown!)

Must go and do the Supermarket shop. Dark clouds all around so an umbrella will be the thing - wish I could lend one to dear EJ today.

  • Morning all, Bright and sunny at the moment after lots of rain last night. More showers forecast for later.

Lynette : I was at Dyfi in May but the eggs had not hatched then. It was Tiger & Chloe who saw the hatching.

Not a lot else to say apart from thanks to everyone else for their chat and hope that everyone who has been unwell is feeling better.

Glad that Rory McIlroy is doing well in the golf and hope he keeps it up into the last round this time.

  • Have just found a post on the Chat pages, telling where you can get a free CD with Garden Bird Sounds, FREE!  from the RSPB.  Go to Chat, then look for the post saying 'Free RSPB CD of Garden Bird Sounds', there you will find the link. (too long for me to post here, and I don't know how to cut & paste it)

  • Morning Everyone. We didn't get home until after midnight last night after visiting my brother and his wife. Rain never stopped yesterday and is looking very threatening this morning. The sky is black at the moment.

Alicat, A belated Happy Wedding Anniversary. I hope you did something special for yourself.

Lynette, It was good to hear that your foot is improving but now you have injured your back. I don't think you should do anything today. You have been so busy lately.

AQ, Good to hear your cough has now gone. Enjoy being home and catch up with your sleep. We can have wonderful holidays but it is always great to get back to your own bed.

Patricia, Hope you have a successful day at the competition and that the medication helps with your shingles.

OG, Thinking of you. Hurry up Tuesday for your jab.

Linda, Thank you for your Wirral Pictures.

  • G'morning, everyone. Nearly 6:00 AM here. An incoming storm woke me up, and I can't get back to sleep. Thought I'd tell you all about an incident that happened to me last night about 7:30.

My garage is not attached to my house; it sits adjacent to the woods. The brush and weeds are very dense this year, because of the heavy storms, so I can't see into the woods at all in many places. It looks more like a jungle than a traditional hardwood forest! So yesterday evening, I wanted to get the last of the mowing done before the predicted rain, and I went out to the garage to get my lawn mower. I always wear soft shoes and I walk very quietly, just by habit. I put my hand on the garage door handle, and I heard this explosion of activity right beside me.

It scared the daylights out of me!!! (That's an Indiana expression.) My heart was beating a mile a minute. I turned around, and I was face to face with a buck deer. He'd been lying in the brush beside the garage -- about 4 feet from me.

He was as startled as I was, and we were frozen in that moment, peering into each other's eyes. He let out a short bellow and snorted at me -- the deer equivalent of a sweary word, I think. I slowly backed up to give him some space. Our white-tailed deer are fairly big, and the bucks are impressive when they have a good-sized rack of antlers. I remained very quiet and kept backing up, and after one more loud snort of annoyance, he turned and headed up the hill. It was a phenomenal experience! LOL

I'll catch up with everyone a bit later, after I've had a cup of spiced tea. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

OG: I hope you're feeling better today.

  • Here are a couple of National Fish & Wildlife Service (government) photos of white-tailed deer bucks, so you can see what they look like. (The photos were clearly marked "Public Domain", link to photo ).
