  • Pics from our trip to The Wirral on Tuesday last:

When we first started walking , we found a meadow just chock full of lovely long legged buttercups: (the view is across the estuary)

then we walked down a tunnel of wild plants - roses, hawthorne, vetch, and all kinds of greenery:

--near the end, we found lots of daisies in a field:

-full of busy bees, of course.  We could hear lots of childish shrieks, and as we turned the corner, found another meadow full of boisterous children aged about 6 or 7, in the field with butterfly nets - they and their teachers were looking at the insects, and seeing what they could catch.  They were having such a great time!

Later, after eating our sandwiches and lazing in a chair looking at the view, we heard some more shrieks - this time more adult noises.  When we packed up to leave, we found that a whole party of about 30 -40 adults were playing games - they had come as a group and had had a BBQ. After that, they played 'games' including Wooden Spoon Race, 3 Legged Races, and doing the Lambada (is it?) where you have to shimmy under a lowering stick, last one out is the winner!  Never seen so many adults having so much fun in ages. It must have been an Office Outing or something.

We saw some birds in the far distance only, except for the odd gull, and some magpies. Did notice a lot of those small brown butterflies, but they are very common and would not stay still for the camera. Went home tired but happy, with a red nose from the sun and a strong need for a cup of tea.

  • Sorry to hear of your lone Anniversary, Alicat - make him take you out somewhere nice when he does get back!

And you can spend lots of time watching Ospreys over the next couple of days, without him complaining that you neglect him!

  • Evening all,

Had great difficulty getting on here again today. Not sure what is going on with the website. Fortunately the webcam is ok through Carnyx.

Linda : Thanks for the pics from your trip to the Wirral.

Alicat : Happy anniversary. Sorry your OH cant be there.

Its been raining off and on all day today and not very warm either. Just been out for a walk with lady P and heard a cuckoo. We do hear them from time to time when out with Hamish. We have had lots of starlings in the garden today and several sparrows on the fat ball feeders. Also 4 or 5 goldfinches on the nyger seeds. The dark coloured pied wagtail has also been in the garden today along with 4 collared doves and a robin and a woodpigeon.

  • Thanks Alan, OH has rang a couple of times since he left he said that he has got me present from the event that he has gone too,its 22 years for our Anniversay

  • Hi all - do you think that the website is just overloaded at times? maybe it just cannot cope ? I am not very techie minded, so forgive me if I am talking absolute rubbish! Can this happen?

  • Yes Heather it can... photos that have not been compacted can take forever to load. We always shrink ours before uploading.... as they say "every little helps"!!!

  • Hi folks Couldn't get on to RSPB site at all earlier.  It seems to be OK now.

Thanks to all for the good wishes.  My shingles don't (doesn't?) seem too bad - I had what I now realise were symptoms, before the rash appeared.  My energy levels are down a bit but I'm now on a high dose anti-viral drug so things should soon get better.

AQ, OG and Lynette Hope you are all feeling better.  Don't overdo things until you are really in top form again.

To all who have posted the wonderful pictures, I wish I had your photographic skill - and your cameras.

SheilaFE My clems (6, I think) are in pots, except for one. I kept the labels on because I would never remember the names.

I can understand concerns about wind-farms.  We don't have very many, certainly not in this area and the odd one isn't too intrusive.  My big concern on the energy front is the proposal to instal a power line from Beauly to Denny - monster pylons right through some of the most beautiful scenery in the UK.

We were watching the US Open golf earlier - Rory McIlroy is from a little town about 10 miles from us and Graeme McDowell is from Portrush on the north coast, so plenty of local interest.

Off to an agility competition tomorrow.  It' about 10 minutes drive from home so not too bad.  Hope the weather is better than today, which was constant heavy rain from early morning until late afternoon!  Hope it was better at LG for Margo.

  • Hi folks, first time on today as last night I couldn't get on site and also for most of today. Anyhow have done now and just caught up with all the news.  Nice to hear from Diane and everyone.

Alan, just love the dark pied wagtail.  Was it you who visited Dyfi and saw the ospreys there? Just caught up with one of Springwatch's episodes last week (have taped all the shows to catch up on) and they enthused over the ospreys breeding there for the first time in 400 years. Also they captured the emersion of the chicks and showed that - sooooo lovely.

Foot is healing and just carrying on as usual.  Finished the painting of the boxed in pipes today and somehow turned awkwardly and tweeked a muscle in by back.......de. So that has taken over the pain stakes, never mind it will get better with time.

Hope all you that are under the weather are feeling a little better.  Margobird finishes tonight, doesn't she. Do hope that it has lived up to her expectations, I'm sure it will have.

I'm rambling again.  Lovely pics of the Wirral, Lindybird.
