Another new week. I wonder what surprises it will bring?

JSB Outraged at the increase in gas and electricity prices. Cannot believe that we are forcing people in our own country to choose between eating and heating whilst giving vast sums to countries like India and China. Heard the other day that although India have a space programme there are still pockets of extreme poverty and this is why we are giving so much!!!! Don't buy it, they should back off their space programme and help those in poverty themselves. Rant over but this and litter are 2 of my pet hates. Off for a bike ride soon so you will get some peace.
Dibnlib: Totally agree with you about the increase in gas and electricity prices. I wonder how much money is being invested by these companies in all those useless wind turbines that dont work when there is no wind and also dont work when there is too much wind.
Alan and dibnlib - totally agree with you ... and don't get me started about wind farms! We have 9 turbines on the 100-year-old east pier, put there in 1992 ... the first off-shore ones in Britain apparently, plus two giant ones 1 mile off-shore. Recently they were dubbed 'The Most Feeble Wind Farm in Britain'. As if that's not bad enough they plan to replace them with higher more powerful ones. AAAAAAARGH!!!!!
Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Someone is making a fast buck out of wind turbines but it is not the consumer. I cant understand why they are going ahead with further developments.

Afternoon all - just having a pottering day today ... heavy showers all day, after a night of rain!
dibnlib - sorry to hear that the car window isn't sorted after all ... what a pain.
Alan - lovely pic of the dark wagtail ... smart looking bird! Interesting about the white-tailed eagles ... magnificent birds to see in flight.
Linda - a glut of strawberries ... lucky you! I just have one pot with them in ... they are ripening nicely ... but it will be a race between me and the birds as to who gets the biggest and juiciest :-))
OG - sorry you are under the weather, hope its just the need for the injection and nothing more. The bad B&B was a blessing in disguise for you! More lovely photos. I particularly like the jelly fungus one ...very unusual.
patriciat ... sorry to read you have shingles ... I hope it will be a mild form.
Wendy - lovely to read about margobird's adventures in the HIghlands - I hope she was ok on her night shift and that her sore throat doesn't get worse.
Thanks to everyone for chat etc
Take care
Alan and DjoanS As you will probably recall I am another person totally against windfarms having spent the best part of four years fighting a local one - successfully fortunately. They create far more hot air in the form of energy required to stop them, than they will ever create using wind to create electricity. The developers make the fast buck and you and I pay them thru our electricity bills. The sooner this Govt stops paying them for Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) the better. It is just easy money for them. Landscape everywhere is being ruined by these monstrosities. I raise you an AAAHHHH Joan.
edit: or even an AAAAAAARGH!!

Sheila If you are anti wind farms you will love what this man says about windmills. Listen here It is just after the half way mark but the lecturer is very good.
I have been thinking of this wonderful guide to osprey development. However I forgot where it was and I could not find it. Happily a look on my old computer has succeeded. See eggs to flight.
Hi, Osprey People!
Sorry I haven't been posting regularly. The heat has ebbed a bit for the last few days, and I've been trying to get some work done before it soars back up this weekend.
I've just pulled a bunch of stinging nettle that once again grew up around my front step. I saved some of the leaves to make an herbal extract. Stinging nettle is reported to reduce inflammation and fight the pain of rheumatoid arthritis. I'll chop up the leaves and macerate (soak) them in vodka for 6 weeks; then strain out the leaf material.
OG: My friend, I'm so sorry that you're feeling poorly. I hope that your doctor can help by adjusting the timing of your treatments or perhaps developing a new strategy for your care. Be very demanding on your own behalf! Probably good that your holiday was cut short. I hope you weren't charged. I have enjoyed all of your wonderful photos. Many years ago, I used to have expensive photography equipment, but I never had your talent, unfortunately. You have a gift.
AQ: You need a vacation to recover from your vacation! Once at a party, I found myself talking to a guy who was a flight attendant on international flights. He delighted in telling me some spine-chilling horror stories about the air quality (germs!) on those jets. Gave me goose bumps. I hope you were able to have a wonderful trip, anyway! Get some rest and get your energy back. Then tell us all about it. I'm watching an episode of Mutant Planet on the Science Channel right now. It's about Australia and the amazing ways that plants and animals have adapted to the ongoing drought.
Patriciat: Oh, bless your heart, shingles! I hope that you have only a mild case. You have enough stress to deal with. That's awful! So sorry.Lynette: Glad that you're getting your house improvements all finished. You will be so pleased with the results! Alicat: I loved your beautiful holiday photos!!! Especially liked the photo of you and Bobbie.
dibnlib: Thank you so much for posting the photo of the three of you at Loch an Eilean. So good to see you all! I was so very sorry to read that your Mom's health has declined. Such a tragic, stressful situation for all of you. My thoughts are with you.
Alan: Have enjoyed all of your photos. I want a pair of those Shelducks. They are gorgeous. Please tell them to fly to Indiana!Annette: So glad about your grandson's transformation. Good for him and you!Lindy: Sounds like you had a lovely time on the Wirral. Have enjoyed your posts!Tiger: Loved your holiday pictures, and thanks for the owl link. Wonderful!!!Quietwoman: Congrats on Grandson 2's achievement!
I envy Margo and her trip to LG. Sounds like Wendy, dibnlib, Rosie, and Heather have been very kind to her, and she has been able to see the miraculous Scottish scenery. Wish I could book a trip right now! :-)
Hi, to Joan, Brenda, Auntie, Cirrus, and everyone I've missed. I'll try to stay more up-to-date. Have a good evening!
