Morning all: Late checking tonight. Back later...
Have been fiddling about with photos today - so have now changed my Avatar to this one:
=== our new Avatars are so small, you can't see what they are, most of the time!
Lindybird......Superb.
stunning photo LINDYBIRD
Ditto...Lindybird, and whoever posted the pic of the orchid....forgotten already!! It's my age you know!! I lost all my lovely orchids after the new year when I had to go away so suddenly. I should have left them somewhere a bit warmer.
I feel for you Cirrus.....your friend and your teeth! Hope you have recovered from all the trauma.
I visited a friend while she was in hospital and saw a very elderly lady, who had got out of her bed, being 'dressed down' by a nurse very rudely. She was shouting at her telling her she should do what she is told, just as if she was a disobedient four year old. I was so cross and moved to go and speak to the nurse but my friend held on to my arm and begged me not as she was sure they would "take it out on me", to use her words. This was a few years ago and I thought that treatment of the vulnerable and elderly had improved. It semms I'm wrong.
The mind is like a parachute, it doesn't work if it's not open.
Thanks - I love Poppies, as you may gather!
Well I bought an OS map today to look at the paths marked on it in the field I mentioned and we've just been to have another look. Email sent to North Yorks County Council about it so we'll see what happens now.
When OH walked this morning he heard no Skylarks but there were a couple tonight. I'm going to have to do some research and see if they would still have been nesting.
Wendyb is there still any activity at the RAF bases up there or has it all gone now? We did used to like to go and see the spectacle of all those fighter jets taking off and landing. OH went to the viewing point to photograph them but I'd have to stay in the car as Mia would be terrified. I have to say my favourite was the Harrier which I know has been axed. Such a waste.
Lossie is still up and running and they fly over our cottage. They should be 500feet above but we are not sure abov what as they go past kitchen window. Kinloss closed a couple of weeks ago a great loss to the civilians that work there. The decision about Lossie should come next month...the trouble is the more Alex Salmon winds up David Cameron the more likely it is to close. Posturing politics will cost jobs.
We get the new european fighter...big loss was the Nimrod and yes it was out of date but the new designs coming on stream have been cut up and I think we be reliant on the Americans to cover..never a good move.
Nice pics Lindy, clever to get twice as much orchid by using the mirror! Agree about the useless small avatars. I mean, see Wendy's dogs above, we know they're dogs but anyone new won't :(

Change isn't always for the better.I always thought our avatars were our personal signatures.
Good intentions are one thing … I was going to try to post little and often, but haven’t been on yet today, apart from a bit of speed-reading! I had a bad night, so got back into bed when OH got up and slept an hour and a half this morning. Also been finding things to do all day, like catching up on some correspondence. But here I am now. Replies will be selective, but thanks to all.
Terry – wondered about the bikes, as you hadn’t mentioned them lately!
Lindy – love the politicians’ bolt-hole theory!! Am really missing AQ! Nice photo of Orchid in the mirror. Mine is resting at the mo – exposed roots have little nodules on the ends – can you grow new plantlets from them – does anyone know? Is that Patty’s Plum you have for new avatar?
Dibnlib – hope you had a great day – and enjoyed the Ullapool chish and fips! Pleased Dillon is walking without the limp. … I see you did have a good day – forest sounds very interesting. It will be wonderful to see the Tall Ships next month – hope it coincides with your OH’s days off. Good luck with the bike!
Lynette – Pleased your daughter felt a bit better today – but the whole business seems very unpleasant, and she still has to work with that person. Glad her Homegroup are there to encourage her, and will hope a new position turns up for her somewhere better.
Diane – sorry to read about approaching storms yet again – take care.
Tina – good to “see” you again – sorry about Blackbird. Moulting moping is normal, but I hope the eye is soon better. What a lovely job your husband has – when the weather is good!
Wendy – safe journey to Aberdeen tomorrow to meet OH – could be rather pleasant if the weather is good –lots of moorland birds over the hills - or do you go round on the A96?
Cirrus – sorry you had such an unsatisfactory day. Very sensible not to phone straight away – it wouldn’t change anything. I hope you found a really good movie to watch.
QW – I know how you feel about treatment of the elderly, but equally, when I had my knee replaced, I was in a room with two elderly ladies who did such silly things at time, that I felt wholly sympathetic with the staff trying to look after them!
Trish - hope your research pays off re footpaths and nesting birds. When we went to the hide on Spey Bay last year, we saw no Ospreys, but a wonderful head-on view of a Harrier coming in to Kinloss!
Wendy – Son reckons Lossie are cutting costs by flying the Typhoons one at a time whereas they used to go out in pairs!
Totally agree with all comments about our silly little avatars! OH is sitting here strumming Google guitar - it must be time for bed!
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
