Almost forgot about starting this one!  Off to read last few posts of last week.

  • Evening all: Very wild and windy here today; put up my brand new hammock (will post photos later) and lolled around in it for a bit, but then Lightning decided she wanted to join me. She used to snooze with me on my old rope hammock in Long Beach, which was was okay, but the new one is all-fabric and she immediately started grabbing onto the material with her claws and rolling about so, I was forced to evict her! Yes, I know, not very nice, but!  Grandson turns 21 tomorrow, so we'll be taking him out to dinner along with his girlfriend; daughter is coming along too. She'll be heading back to Arizona next Saturday morning.

OG: Drove to Los Carneros, but the wind was really strong so not many birds; did see the White Tailed Kites and a Blue Heron on my way home, also a squirrel balanced all the way at the end of a small twiggy bush. No idea what he/she was doing; seemed to be keeping an eye out. My friend (the wife of the couple we saw last night) was at the lake yesterday morning and saw two young bobcats romping in the brush! I've never seen them - guess it's just being in the right place at the right time.

Tiger/TerryM: Just checked out the area you were at today (yesterday); looks lovely.

Am really tired this evening, so not sure how late I'll be up. Take care all.

  • Terry - what an adventure ! You make it sound marvellous. More pics please.

Annette, I think fountains are wonderful things and water always attracts wildlife of one sort or another. Good for you. Great pic of the what ever it it - quite stunning.

I remember a BBC programme about the Iceman Diane -  facinating isn't it. I'd forgotten it until you brought it up . Thanks.

Lovely Greylags on a beautiful lake OG (they are Greylags saren't they? ) And stunning pics of the garden. It''s so hard to believe it was once a working quarry.

Super close pic of the Greater Spotted Alan - and that sure is some handsome dude of a pheasant

Now hold on there Lindy - put warm sweaters away ? mmmm a bit hasty me thinks . Precious Sweetpea didn't want the bride to get all the attention. How sensible of her :)

dibllib - a Meerkat loo roll holder !  Posh in the extreme  :) Definitely ''Designer'' Good luck to OH and his new job and what a marvellous celebration lunch!

Family history indeed Lynette - you must save them and an album sounds ideal

Small world that you Terry and you Tiger should be so close in the same spot !- bit confused here Terry - are you on duty at Whinlatter or LG  ?

Enjoy your new hammock Annette - I've always wondered how easy they are to actually get in to !

Out tody at GardenCentre and needful shopping (boring) so enjoy your day everyone.

  • Morning all ... Bank Holiday Monday ... and its raining  :-))

OG - yet more beautiful photographs ... I have so enjoyed both them, and your accounts of the gardens you visited. My file of your phographs is getting ever bigger!

Linda - so sorry to hear that your friend has yet more health problems, but good that she has such a positive attitude and things to look forward to  ... and a friend like you!! Loved the gardener quote from your diary page ... how very true :-)

Alan - you posted some great pics too ... love Mrs Woodpecker!

Annette - your new water feature sounds good ... I look forward to some pics when it is in place. I have a small water feature ... just a little terracotta jug that cascades water through 4 bowls. It is lovely to look at and listen to ... and the blackbirds and dunnocks use it as a bird bath :-)) Poor Lightning - banned from the new hammock!

Lynette - glad you found interesting documents in the box of your dad's things. I found the same kind of things after my dad passed away a couple of years ago ... ancient driving licence etc ... even a poem that had been sent to him and mum on their wedding day, by a guest who coudn't be there! I intend to put them in an album ... a job for a wet day in the future :-)

Terry M - your holiday sounds wonderful ... looking forward to Part Two!

Dibnlib - great toilet roll holder ... anyway ... does it matter what anyone else thinks, as long as you like it?!!

This is turning into a monster post, so will stop. (Serves me right for not posting yesterday!)

Now ... what will I do today ... its raining, so will I do the dreaded HW ... chill out ... mess about on the computer???

    Take care.

  • Morning, Everyone:   Had a bit of a lay in today, then got into long discussions with my OH before starting up the pc - so a bit late!

Raining here, as promised by the Weatherman - hope that you down South who have not had any, will get your wish at last, now.

Here are this weeks Monday Smiles:

    - think they are all meant to be illustrations of stupidity!

  • Joan:  you overlapped with me - so glad to hear that you are getting some rain at last!  I vote for your lolling around, as its a Bank Holiday!  (& of course keeping up with our Osprey family)

Just read back,  how lovely to sit in a hammock, with or without a Puddy Tat, Annette!  Hope you get chance to put it to good use later, and also that you enjoy the new fountain when its installed.  (we also ditched our BBQ a while back - it was getting rusty and was never used, so I bought a whole stack of disposables, and a stand to put them on which is very small so takes up no room).

Lovely that Tiger and Chloe could meet up and go to Bassenthwaite. And a mystery solved!

My OH just shouted to me to come, and we had a G S Woodpecker on the feeder!  He flew off when he saw my ugly pink dressing gown approach the window - dont blame him......

Must go now as not hosed down yet, and we are going out.

  • Morning all,

Linda : Thanks for the monday smiles.

TerryM : Thanks for your description of the holiday - sounds great.

Thanks to everyone else for the chat.

It is actually raining at the moment. Fairly light at the moment but we badly need any rain we can get.

It looks like the eggs have been abandoned at Aberfoyle just as they are about to hatch. Not sure what has happened there but no doubt we will find out in due course. It seems to be an 'unlucky' nest. Not such a good year as last for hatching at the monitored nests due to various circumstances. We should be extremely thankful thet we have 2 healthy chicks at LG.

  • Morning all. Heavy rain again.  Just about to go out with OH and Mia for a longish walk so will be getting very wet.  I'll have to hope there's something decent in telly to watch whilst ironing this afternoon.  Anyhow I just thought I'd let you know that the hawk flying was absolutely amazing yesterday - what an experience. OH wants to go again.  I'll try and post some pics later.

  • Trish : Reading v Swansea is on SKY. Championship play offs final at wembley this afternoon!!! LOL

  • Trish,  other ironing alternative would be tennis from Paris on the BBC Red Button. If Andy Murray's ankle holds out he should be on about 4-5pm, depending on how long earlier matches last.!!!

  • Good morning all from a rather wet an chilly Poole.  Need the rain though so not going to complain.  Have a short time to have a look while OH is out shopping and much as I would like cannot reply to all the posts.  Will have to catch up with the ehd of last week's chat during the week when i have more time and don't feel guilty about spending several hours on the PC.  Thanks to all for all the wonderful photos and Lindybird  for the Monday Smiles, always good to come on and see these every week.

Will not be able to do much in the garden today but OH had a good few hours out there yesterday.  I spent a little time helping him but got so cold he sent me in.  As you will guess there will be a lot of warm clothes going with me to LG, that will probably mean that the weather will be brilliant and It will be too hot for all the warm clothes (hopefully).

Enjoyed our Tony Christie concert very much, he is a wonderful singer and has a such a good rapport with his band and the audience.  Nearly got up and started dancing but managed to control myself.

Billie is going from strength to strength and is so good at using her litter tray at night.  She seemed to know exactly what it was for.  Put it away during the day but nice to know we can safely leave her at night now without there being any accidents.  OH is really a big softie where this little cat in concerned.  Has just phoned to say he has got her some more treats.  Have to say that we are both spoiling her though, she just loves all the affection she is being shown and replies in kind.  We sit and play with her for yours and find ourselves creeping round when she is sleeping, how daft is that.

Hope you all have a nice day despite the weather and I do believe it is going to improve over the week with higher temperatures being forecast.

Back tomorrow to spend more time watching our super osprey family.
