I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.
I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.
Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.

Mm, that seemed to work. So why didn't the one on DU. Rhetorical question
Right, time to see if I can lock up the thread with my holiday! Here goes copy and paste from Word:
Thursday 12th. Went to the RSPB site at Balranald and saw seals, wheatears, dunlin, twite, snipe, oystercatchers, lapwings and arctic terns. .http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/b/balranald/index.aspx There is a salmon smokery nearby and that’s what we had for dinner while we were here.

Lots of technical changes yesterday. I notice that we now have a star system to denote whether we have unread posts in a thread. A red sunburst indicates that there are unread posts.
I notice that a new taskbar has appeared at the top of threads. If we click the <home> hyperlink it takes us to the new posts noticification screen. Suddenly all our musings are seen by many more people.

Hi Tiger
Not everyone can see the same symbols. In addition to red sunbursts, yellow stars with small red sunbursts, and yellow pieces of paper, some people can also see pieces of paper with coloured pencils on and some can't.

If anyone finds themselves unable to post it may because they have somehow dropped out of the Loch Garten Group. The solution is to rejoin.
I post this as I have just come across a case this morning.
Just trying to embed a video
Seems like that was successful. You have no idea how long I have been wondering about that. Only got around to doing it just now.

It seems like the secret of success is to not attempt to make it into a link which was where I originally went wrong.
Woodpecker I just pretended it was a photograph. Since it was already embedded no more changes were necessary.
