Technical Test Thread

I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.

I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.

Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.

  • Doggie - Yes the original posted at 8.5 MB went on. I have Windows Live Photo Gallery and do not have a clue how to reduce the size that is the problem. What buttons do I click - I am not an IT man.

  • Got there I think.

    Re sized to 154 (2) 640 x 427 at 240 KB

No quality loss and instant post.

  • Thanks Doggie - Now I have the idea will just have to practice reducing the size before I forget how to.

  • Chloe & Robert. It is the big virus that is going about and it is called Metropolitan Police. I had to have it removed by a comp technician, he said he has had quite a few people that has been caught by it, he said it is quite difficult to remove.

He would be able to save the things in my favourites, which he did, but GE was on my desktop and now gone:-(

If nothing goes right, go left! :-)

  • Ah, so it was a virus then, you weren't hacked. Which antivirus programme were you using?

You can download GE and install it again now your computer is clean.

  • The Google Earth Links for Dyfi is here      just click the kml link and Google Earth will open automatically. At the end you got to decide to save or discard. I usually discard as otherwise I get multiple copies of the link in Google Earth.

For Blue 44 and Blue YD click the <view in Google Earth> in this link

  • Thanks Tiger. I have put them all in to GE. How do I put them in my favs now?? I have right clicked on GE to save it, but nothing happens.

I think this Award is long over due - no matter how many times you go through a lesson you never get tired of going over it again and again, maybe its an endurance award you should be given LOL.

It is not really a good idea to save those links in Google Earth as the I do not think they will update automatically. That is why I always go back to the original links which do update.

When you get more than one copy of the same link in Google Earth it can be confusing. For example I often remove all the dates and put back just the most recent points. Now if there is a second link also providing points that can be confusing.

In fact recently I deleted most of my links from Google Earth.

I really think thai the best approach would be

    1. For the Dyfi   data  use this  link

    2. For the   SWT data use this think

    3.  For the Loch Garten Data you got to use  the technique outined here

The Loch Garten link now works in the same way as the other two. You just click on the kml link and itt loads.

    4. The instructions for Rutland are here

    5. The best way would be to   save this post as a favourite. (assuming you are using Internet Explorer you bring this post up and save it as a favourite)

I have now put a link to this post in my Loch Garten Index in my signature which is also to be found in a number of other people's signatures too.
