I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.
I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.
Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.
Tiger Signature
Tiger, you are probably right but not looked, there is nothing on the front of the tower, but maybe at the side. I am so fed up with it all, I think I have resigned mysef to buying something new now. Have XP running on the Sony laptop so now realise that I can always have all my programs running on it and could link up to a printer if I needed to print anything off. Not sure I want to spend say £500 on old machine, would rather put that money towards something new. Only thing would have a new 23" monitor and a 2 week old keyboard lying doing nothing. Oh well would always be there.
EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023
Well I know someone whose XP system locked up about three months ago. Repairs failed. However after getting data of the disk with a caddy, they flattened the hard drive and reinstalled XP using a XP disk. Now he did have the codes from his old XP and it all worked fine.
However a new system will be in a different league.
I have a 2005, 2009 and 2011 computers and the last one is just so much more powerful.
Thats what I am thinking Tiger, the computer was over 5 years old so something new now I would be totally spoiled LOL.....

With 16 GB of RAM it is a different world.
Make sure they partition the hard drive so that the programmes go on the C drive and data on the D drive. The D drive should be much bigger than the C
Will keep that in mind. I know the Sony laptop is set up partitioned between C and D drives I am sure. It is a few years old now though too, so I will buy OH a new Sony laptop for his birthday as well. He doesnt want one LOL but I want him to have one so I can take the old one LOL... Will get I5 for that.

Had you just bought a new monitor for the computer?
If so why not just ask them to build you a computer without a monitor?
Not sure they would do that Tiger, because Sony only do All in One PC's.
Are you thinking about getting an all-in-one then Mary?
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
Chloe I didnt really want to but as Sony only do All in Ones its our only option, if we want to be able to see what we are buying, and know that we will get good customer service, this is a local family business although its called Sony Centre, we have been buying stuff from them for years and they have always been good, so thats why we are thinking of going to them. I know that I will get used to whatever we buy and will probably be well within any spec that I require, so best to go for service and know that they are there if anything goes wrong. When we bought the Sony laptop at first it took ages to boot up, so we took it back and they gave us a new one without any hassle.
Mary By all in one do you mean that the computer is integrated with the screen?
