I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.
I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.
Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.

Cannot get into Safemode Kate nothing happening when pressing F8!!! Been at it since this morning now, I could cry with frustration, cannot understand why it boots up to the desktop with all my shortcuts/wallaper etc but then get programs not responding when pressing anything. Will keep trying to get into safemode, but I think it looks like a new computer.
Thanks Chloe, I think its more than luck I will need, more like divine intervention ..... a miracle springs to mind LOL

Mary... dont give up :) if it just suddenly happened, lets see if we can get it going. do try making the Superanti disc, as you can just plug that in and run it. dowlnoad the FREE link, not the one that says get a quote..
Also unplug everything and take out any battery, wait at least 10 mins More if poss, then put everything back before switching on again.
try the other F keys, 2, 10 12 etc... as Doggie asks what make and what are you running Vista, windows 7,etc..

Doggie am running Windows XP, on an Evesham Computer, bought directly from them built to our own specification, sadly company has gone out of business now. New keyboard is a Microsoft one.
Thanks everyone for your help, will keep trying all suggestions.
Mary, just to add my tuppence worth. My sister-in-law's computer froze and after much investigation, my OH had to uninstall McAfee completely and then reinstall.it. Everything is working fine now.
Do not panic. One thing at a time.
First how is the data situation? How much is backed up?
Mary the most important thing is he data. Everything else can be got back.
If I were you I would secure the data first and for that you need a "caddy".
A caddy is something which costs about £20 to £30 and is invaluable at times like this.
You remove the hard drive from your computer and then plug the hard drive into the caddy. You then plug the caddy into another computer which will see it just like an external hard drive.
First task is to save you data.
Actually no. First task is to scan the drive for viruses. Then save your data.
