I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.
I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.
Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.

A bit of advice or help please!!! from Doggie or any other computer buffs.
My PC crashed this morning whilst I was using it. When I rebooted it, it came back up, all shortcuts on desktop etc., but everything freezes, I cannot use internet, it lets you press Start but when trying to switch machine off in the proper manner, it freezes again and says Program not responding. Even a Control Alt Delete results in Program not responding. So I have to switch off on CPU unit. Have even tried to do a Restore point to a few days ago, but once again get Program not responding. When powering back up the last time I got the Checking File System on C: NTFS, and below that, a message said File Record Segment is Unreadable 427868,69, 70, 71 - we have checked on internet on laptop and getting all sorts of different solutions, but no good because cannot get on the Internet to make repairs with the faulty pc.
Do you think that the hard drive is at fault, so taking maching back to factory settings would not solve the problem? Any advice would be appreciated. I am dreading the thought of having to start all over again, got a lot of stuff backed up on to external hard drive, but sometimes things slip by, this is my worst nightmare.

Mary, I cannot help but have had my laptop freezing and making a loud Buzz but control alt Delete usually sorts it but have had to switch it off before. I have had it will not start and need to run repairs but this appears and this is usually if the dog has pulled the cable out as I need a new battery.
Doggie havent tried that but will do now - THank You for your help!
Mary a similar thing happened to me a little while back. I ended up having to go into safe mode to do a system restore as I couldn't do it in the normal way. It seemed to be something to do with a windows update that hadn't installed properly. It has been perfectly ok since then.

Chloe still trying to do what Doggie suggested, taking a while.. We tried earlier getting into Safemode but couldnt get into it, will try again. OH put a disc in and tried earlier to do the system restore from that and it froze again.
Good luck Mary, hope you manage to sort it.
Mary....As ChloeB suggests,
or a few more suggestions
Safemode>run antivrus full scan
or at log on..
one of the F keys sometimes F8 or F10,
find repair this computer.
Have you downloaded anything recently?
Doggie - We get the Message Windows unable to complete the disc check.....
Will have a go at trying to get into safe mode, but last time it wouldnt even let us get into safe mode.
Thanks Kate2 - only thing we have changed was we updated our Macafee Virus check that comes included with BT package. that was a couple of days ago.
Hmm.. IF you can get into safe mode try the F keys, or run these FREE but reliable
www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html
Then
www.malwarebytes.org/.../malwarebytes_free
In fact as I speak/(thinking):) you could make the portable Superantispyware on spare disc in another computer/ laptop and then try running that in the crashed computer.
